I find it fascinating where people choose to sit.

I find it fascinating where people choose to sit.

As a teacher who has done over 300 seating charts here's what I've learned:
people seat themselves next to their friends anywhere in the room. I go along with their choices first week to find out who's friends with who and then week two break them all up around the room
No one likes the immediate front. No one.
Corners are prime real estate
The type of desk & chair matter a lot especially to lefties. Lefties will fight you to stay at a universal desk. Some need to have the chair & desk legs BALANCED perfectly - no rocking! A combo seat/desk is preferred over a 2 piece seat/desk.
Windows & lighting matter more for some.
A view out to hallway is also prime real estate to see who's passing by.
Arrangement of desks reflects on if teacher is cool or not. Parliament style is great. Industrial rows suck
Grouped desks in 3s & 4s are a novelty
U shaped is also great.
Left side, the front. Always.
Though one time… I was first to sit and the teacher said they would be choosing seats (first and only time this happened), I didn’t get the seat though I did achieve 2nd row so…. Not bad.
Another time, the class was being so disruptive the art teacher shifted our placements half way through the class period.
Always back- closest to door and spot to get least amount of stares form class. When my vision altered and when I had a class I needed to do better in and this coupled with the fact the teacher was strict with others but nice to me meant I chose to sit in the front for the rest of the year and focus on the teaching and teacher and less on the students. :) it worked out nicely.
If I could choose it was far back but often teachers made fun and moved those who chose back rows forwards and those who chose the first row backwards. I learned soon best row is the second from back.

A row or two back from the front, towards the middle. It's easier to see and hear, but not without an anchor.
Back right side. That’s the side that the exit door at the front is located at. Seating at the back insures I don’t pay attention and still leave before most.
High school: Back row most of the time - I preferred to lean my chair to the back wall.
College: Anywhere in the middle.
Second row by the window. Not too far, not too close and a distraction outside when the class bores me.
I would always head to the back. With assigned seats I was always in the front because my last name started with a B
In college I always sat near the back.
I sit in the middle
I always sat in the back if I could.
Back corner seat.
In the back.
The front
