Elon Musk thinks the USA is the new Rome, do you agree with him?

I initially compared it to modern Rome. It’s another city. There are lots of them.
If you’re referring to ancient Rome in its heyday, I would say it’s been like that for a few decades, nothing has really changed. So, not really that significant of a statement. If anything, we’re less like the new Rome than when we were 50 years ago. That’s the idea behind globalization, everyone is raised up to “Rome” status or, from another perspective, no one is Rome.
I do know I wouldn’t have wanted to live in ancient Rome. They used lead for everything that touch their fresh water.
I think we are more resilient than people give us credit for. Right now it's hard to see it but at every turn enemies are using social media, and prob people on here to some degree to tear us apart from within. It's actually a smart tactic to create chaos from within and get everyone confused on what's real and turn everyone against each other.
We need to be smarter. We can argue with each over policies but we should be nicer to one another and not forget United we stand divided we fall. That's not just for America. That's for us a human race.
The US is largely set up like Rome. Free doles of bread aka welfare to keep the plebs satisfied. A Patrician class that owns everything. A military industrial complex, a huge military. A senate. An eagle as its sigil. Military interventions, inference in foreign governments, sanctioning trade of rival nations, invading other countries. Wealthiest nation in the world yet choking from corruption. Even the office of president is similar to the office of dictator in the Roman Empire.
For his sake, I hope he’s wrong. Rome experienced bloody coups once every century or so. He’d be in the line of fire if he’s given a position of power.

Ah yes, our soon-to-be First Lady, Elon Musk😂
I don’t know. I don’t think a society’s greatness should be measured in prosperity or technological advancement, but rather in prominence of universal interpersonal decency. That should always be the ultimate goal, no matter whether accompanied by feast or famine.
I don't know what that means. If it means that the Roman Republic became cancerous from within and collapsed due to inner rot... yes, of course. The USA has been on that downward spiral for quite a while.
Families are hardly existent anymore, crime and homelessness are rampant, most of the citizens are hedonistic and selfish, have no morals or character, mass shootings occur all the time, the government is so corrupt, there isn't a common culture or unified spirit anymore, extreme immigration has balkanized it into 5o little sub cultures, it doesn't protect women anymore or children. It is rotting from within and will not an afterthought in 100 years.
Civilizations have a life cycle. One is called the Tytler Cycle. We are approaching end stage.
Empires (we are one) tend to last 250 years. We are in final countdown. What is needed cannot be done under our system and leadership. Trump/MAGA cannot save the Republic, just delay its collapse until Vance's second term ends. Then comes civil war, balkanization and, social/economic collapse, dark ages and feudal city States and Absolute rulers.. No more I-phones and internet except for strongholds. I give us 75'years or much less; much of it in anarchy, chaos civil war and invasions.
American Imperialism is nothing like Roman imperialism. America wields power via political influence and military capacity, they practice interventionism but do not seek direct governance over other parts of the world, whilst Rome ruled via direct military control and might over conquered territories.
Informal, cultural or political empire I would say, yes.
Big nation, large economy, military culture, and so much more similarities between the US and ancient Rome (the good and the bad)
So I agree with the comparison. But I think the world is vey different today than it was during the height of Rome
(Then again there are still similarities that never change)
I think this is not his original thought. The architecture is a hint. Maybe having a Senate is too.
The US has great capacity for renewal. I was watching the Space X launch and I got a palpable sense of renewal coming from that. The era of can't do was closing.
I am looking forward to a renewed USA.
Well if you remember correctly Brown was split in half and then came to an end so who knows could be he might be telling us something without saying it out loud
Given his position and how he approaches PR, it's clear enough that Mr Musk is a storyteller. Then substance does not really matter, as long as the story seduces an audience
Rome was the main world power in its time, just like the United States is now. There is definitely a similarity... both Rome and the US have a Senate, but the US doesn't have an emperor.
If he's talking about the greed, corruption and degeneracy that brought Rome down then I agree. In other ways I don't agree.
America has been forging it's own path and making it's own destiny since the Declaration of Independence was signed. We will continue for the forseeable future.
Back in the day countries were part of the roman empire, no one today considers their country to be part of the American empire.
We don't want an empire but we protect everyone i wonder what would happen if we just sat back and minded our own business
No, you only protect those who can give something in return
I don't Agree to None of them, to Nothing! They are just "magnats" that make shit tonnes of money from the world!
With Trump in power? Sure, it's like Nero fiddling while Rome burned. Except that Trump will be pouring gasoline and lighting the match.
in regards to debt and wars and collapse yes
I don't like the analogy...
Only in regard with the "typical" 250-300 years life cycle of flourishing civilizations.
No, but Trump has the same color face that victorious generals had. The didn't have photos bone spurs that kept them safe from enemies, they killed them instead.
I agree: Rome went down the drain at some point in history.
There is no other country at the same level as Rome than the US
i agree in the sense that after great rise, there comes a great fall eventually.
It's like an elementary school play. Looks like some of them brought play dough.
So USA has something like 1000 more years to go?
It could be. Also Roman civilization lasted about 1,000 years.
And Trump is Nero, with Musk an (admittedly rich) court jester !!!
No, I don't think he's correct Roma's a lot nicer looking. It also has better looking nicer people
I hope not the roman empire was full of pompous assholes that's why it fell
I do not understand what that means.
He wants it to fall.
It behaves more like the new Babylon...
Dude is so rich he's completely out of touch.
ı dont think so
Yeah, that’s kind of how they got the architecture
He has a point in some things.
