Those who choose a political career often have enough specialized knowledge of both political science and marketing to be able to get to a place where they can comfortably assume the role in their local community. Does this mean they’re more intelligent than their constituents? No. Having specialized knowledge is not the same as knowing everything, nor is memorized facts a valid measurement of intellect. Your local politician might be very savvy when it comes to satisfying numbers on political spending, but absolute trash when it comes to speaking and voting on social issues that effect their constituents and their communities. They’re not intellectuals for picking that line of work necessarily.
