I think long term when it comes to relationships , I don’t get into a relationship planning an expiration date , I commit to her the same way I hope she commits to me for the long haul , Being with someone that chooses me the same way chooses her. Love only grows in a relationship when both people choose each other and remove selfishness for each other , if you can’t remove selfishness for your partner, don’t expect them to do the same for you. I will only commit to a girl that makes me her priority the same way I make her mine , without that? Her and I have nothing , she would just be a convenience to me if that was the case , but she will not get my heart completely. I only give my heart completely to a girl that wears my shoes the same way I wear hers’ making each other our top priority , if I am not her top priority? She will not be mine. There are plenty of girls’ out there that are looking for true love , so I will trade her in if she can’t remove selfishness for me the same way I do for her. Selfishness is one of the biggest relationship killers , because selfish people only care about themselves and they don’t care about anyone else but themselves. Why selfish people constantly fail in relationships because they can’t grasp the fact they aren’t single anymore when committing to someone

1 yShort term. I like living in the present moment and taking small steps towards my future and not worrying too much about the bigger plans because if I do that then I will drive myself crazy. I do have long term goals but I try to focus on what I can do in the short term to get to the long term goals such as getting my book published for example.
The big picture is to get it published and for it to become successful but I try to focus on the short term goals of just writing a couple of pages a day until I get it complete. That might not be until the end of this year or next year but I'm just focused on the chapter at hand. Not the entire book although I have the book pretty much mapped out.20 Reply

1 yMost people plan tentatively for the future. But things can change, and situations can derail your plans. Some people are always re-evaluating life and make up a new plan every other year, or maybe sooner. I think a lot of us are winging it year after year. For instance, I went to school to learn and improve my future goal. But things changed and the grind of that job was just too much, so I switched up. My new job gives me lots of pleasure in the self-reliance department and the drive to succeed I now have.

1 yI think long term. And as I can't foresee the future, I do things the moment the opportunity arises.
Quote: Pink Floyd (''Time'') -
''Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
Sun is the same, in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death...''10 Reply
Anonymous(45 Plus)1 yI'm a ridiculous planner. I always have a plan. And then a plan outside of that. And then a plan outside of that. So I'm definitely in the long term category.
The difference for me now is I'm closing in on 50. Money just doesn't have the pull it used to for me. Borrowing a complete meltdown in the economy that lasts over a decade, I will retire a millionaire. So my focus probably over the last decade has shifted towards living a more fulfilling life. So you could make the argument that I've become a more short term planner. But I still always have and will always be a big picture guy.

1 yBoth. I have long term goals and plans. At the same time I try to live in the moment because I can't change the past and the future may never happen. The only things I can control all exist in the here and now. I don't know how you successfully navigate life without considering both long and short term goals and planning.

Oh and having long terms goals and plans should not mean you blindly pursue something forever. We change as we age and grow. The economy changes. Life throws curveballs sometimes. It's OK to adjust your goals and planning in response to those things. Just don't be changing your compass heading on a weekly basis. Stability is important. But sometimes there need to be changes.

1 yIt's a mixture of short and long term planning. I have a financial plan for the next 20 years, I plan various things for the next week or so, and I pick what clothes I'm wearing today at the last minute.
Having a balance is important, with the knowledge that the longer term plans can, and should, be changed when appropriate.

1 yLong Term.
Education, get a good job, start investing for retirement and a home right from the start, date women with the goal of would they make a good wife, do we share values and life goals, would she be a good mom, does she have good character, is she devoted and loyal. Not, is she sexy and will she put out this weekend, how often can I party and get drunk and live paycheck to paycheck.
Long-term wisdom vs. short term instant gratification.

1 yBoth. I don't want to miss the moment, but I don't want to get too far down the road and find I got lost along the way.

@NoDecision I've noticed. It's a bit demoralising at times. It's a good job I have plenty of everything else to ask about. 🙃
