What, if anything, is too serious to be joked about?

Jokes about someone's trauma , rape, inappropriate jokes on kids looks or the relationship kid share with an adult, joking and laughing at the pain of animals... These things I find revolting rather than funny.
I didn't know you were vegetarian, well I don't know anything about you haha
@Aakash_Hangargi I'm not a vegetarian. I just don't like the cruel jokes they make on animals who are scared or who are in physical pain. I've seen little kids torture the heck out of street dogs and laugh at them. Boiled my blood, I scolded them and told them that behaviour is NOT acceptable and if they do that again, I'll have a word with their parents.
Not to put you on the spot, but being selectively cruel is fine how do you think non veg food comes from I mean they raise the animals literally to be killed and served as food.
I am just saying because a person has so much kindness that can't see the animals being hurt can also enjoy other animals as food just because they don't see them being killed.
I am not against or pro just didn't get the logic and I am saying it generally and not pointing at anyone
Well I am just a pumpkin head what do I know hehe š.
I knew you'd say something like thatā and honestly, it doesnāt surprise me. I get where youāre coming from, but thereās a clear difference here.
The question was about what kind of jokes are too serious to joke about ā and for me, joking about pain, especially when it comes to animals, is one of those things.
Yes, animals are raised for food, and Iām aware of the reality of that. I stopped eating non-veg for a long time, but I had health issues and being an ectomorph, I struggled to keep my weight stable and had weakness and other health issues. I was told to start including meat in my diet. It wasnāt exactly a casual decision.
You drink milk, right? Sure, they don't get killed to take milk from that but that milk was meant for a calf ā yet we take it. Itās still a form of exploitation, but you donāt joke about it.
Thatās my point. Not everything is funny. Choosing not to laugh at someone else's suffering ā human or animal ā doesn't make someone a hypocrite. It makes them aware. And Iād rather be that than be numb to pain just to appear logically consistent.
I didn't call you a hypocrite , I just wanted to understand the logic.
Yes we drink milk but it's for the calf very true but it produces more than that what the calf requires.
Its not exploitation of borrowing resources by feeding the cows /Buffaloes taking care of them like a barter system
I will also tell you how the cows are exploited in some countries they are given harmone injections to produce more milk and make them believe they are carrying now that is
Exploitation.
I understand your answer now thanks
@Aakash_Hangargi No, no, I didn't say you call me a hypocrite. I wanted to say it out in case someone else comments and call me a hypocrite, lol.
And regarding milk. It is exploitation if someone is taking advantage of some animal for their own benefit. We are using something that wasn't supposed to be for us. Yet we do because it's good for our health. So, everything isn't as black or white was all I was trying to say.
I look like it's like co living you take care of something , you protect them and take care of their health so in return you would expect something useful but in limits and not to be in greed.
By nature I understand we have to consume some life form to keep our life form active that's how it is.
I remember a friend telling me a"Agar Ghoda Ghas Se Dosti Karega Toh Khayega kya"
Thank you š happy to make you happy š
Rape, child abuse, domestic violence, animal cruelty.
I could go on and on.
Iām with you on those topics being off limits for sure!
Humor is subjective, but some topics can be sensitive and might be too serious to joke about for many people. Issues like trauma, health crises, and significant cultural or historical tragedies often fall into this category. It's important to be aware of your audience and use sensitivity and empathy as a guide. Understanding context and having compassion are essential when dealing with sensitive topics. 😊

Cheating on your partner. I don't love you. I have a terminal illness. Your sister died. Our child isn't yours.
Nothing. Humor can help people get through pain. Humor can highlight hypocrisy or bad behavior. Humor can point out problems in society. Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, Sam Kinison, Robin Williams and others pissed people off and made them laugh. But they also made them look at a the world from a different perspective. Comedy is not just about the laughs.
Nothing. I will agree that there is such a thing as tactless timing. Nevertheless, jokes are just jokes. If you donāt like them, thatās fine. Donāt consume jokes. However, you donāt have the right or the responsibility to take jokes away from anyone else, ever. Just because you donāt want or need something doesnāt mean nobody else should be allowed to have it.
Literally nothing. Saying something is "too serious to be joked about" assumes some people will take offense. No one has a right to never be offended. Today it seems society cares more about protecting people with a thin skin than protecting freedom of speech.
Nothing... but a lot of jokes elicit disgust not because of the subject matter, but just because the joke is so crappy and ill-conceived. Lots of people get the silly idea that they're super cool and edgy for offending people when in fact the only offensive thing is how garbage their sense of humour is.
You can joke about anything, but you have to have TIME between the event and the joke. That "too soon" question is pertinent!
Nothing, I actually like dark humour, but that doesn't mean it's appropriate to do them at any moment.
Nothing. Just depends on how good the joke is and whether or not it's done in jest or to be hurtful. Most comics intentionally are joking so if you can't handle the jokes then don't listen to it.
Jokes about an INDIVIDUAL are perhaps out of order especially if they're not in a position to defend themselves or have a platform for rebuttal.
There is nothing too serious to be joked about, if the topic is handled correctly.
Something such as a person's death. Or how this country is falling apart and half the people don't realize what a dangerous idiot Trump is.
the only thing would be child r/sexual abuse (if you're a grown adult at least). everything else no matter how dark is free to joke about
things you know the people around you won't find funny
like its very situational
I would say hunger and economic inequality are things you should not joke about.
Depends on context. What may be joked about today, may be a laughing stock tomorrow.
I had big answer to give but nah not in the mood to put effort and it's highly subjective do no point.
Nothing, it is all in the approach. When it comes to tragic events, you typically get the best results if you mock tragedy itself rather than the victims but that takes a lot of skill.
People dying, unless they are a piece of shit
Nothing. I mean with REAL comedy nothing is out of bounds. But in pleasant company, common sense applies.
Dark humour is a lot like food. Not everyone gets it.
Simples...
Rape. Rape is no laughing matter... unless you are being raped by a clown.
trumps brain content!
Nothing. Everything should be up for laughs.
