8 moRumors that a UK girl's phone was seized for viewing a social media post are false. West Midlands police confirmed that a viral, heavily edited video showing officers at a girl's home is misleading. The footage is part of a cyberbullying investigation, where officers were looking into "indecent messages" sent from a fake account to the teenager.
The false claim was widely circulated online and amplified by far-right commentators. Police released a statement clarifying that they were not investigating a child for "viewing a social media post" and condemned the misinformation.418 Reply- 8 mo

They forced their way into the woman's home and seized a child's phone without a warrant on the basis that someone was cyber bullying. To date no arrests have been made and not likely to be. Is any of what the police say even true?
- 8 mo
"the video is misleading and heavily edited, and no such demand was made in the manner portrayed".
"We are investigating after a complaint from a member of the public that a fake social media account had been created in their name and had been used to send indecent messages.
"The offence being investigated is one of malicious communications - sending indecent or grossly offensive communication to cause distress or anxiety. The messages are of an incredibly serious nature and have caused serious concern for the victim.
"Officers made a number of attempts to speak to a suspect, a teenage girl, at her home address in Walsall earlier this month as part of the investigation."

💔 The Truth Deserves to Be Heard
A vulnerable child has been left deeply traumatised after being wrongly linked to a situation she had nothing to do with.
The child was completely innocent. Like many other pupils, she had simply viewed a social media post about a teacher. Her phone was checked, and no evidence of wrongdoing was found.
Despite this, a misleading public statement was issued that gave the impression of guilt — without explaining the real facts. The truth is that this child was the victim, not the offender.
It later came to light that a staff member had mishandled an image of the child, something that was later admitted. Yet instead of protecting her, the response from authorities made things worse.
The police released information that distorted what really happened, leaving out key facts and damaging an innocent child’s reputation.
If the police genuinely believed what they implied, why were there no arrests or charges? Because there was no crime. Only harm done to a vulnerable young person who should have been safeguarded.
The truth matters. Transparency matters. Accountability matters — especially when it comes to protecting children. - 7 mo

The child targeted had only viewed a social media post about a teacher at her school.
Someone who was not the child the police targeted made a social media post about a teacher in May.
There have been no charges as child is innocent.

Have another look. Turns out it is as I said. The police had no evidence, no right to enter, no right to seize the girl's phone, the officers are to go b4 a review board for their conduct and they've dropped any case and will likely have to pay compensation

Real news often lies
Anonymous(36-45)8 moThis is what happens when there is no freedom of speech. The only country on the planet where free speech exists is the US. and by freedom of speech, I mean they can't arrest you and jail you for things you say as long as you're not inciting violence, which is a felony by the way.
It is a felony under federal law to intentionally “solicit, command, induce, or otherwise endeavor to persuade” another person to engage in a crime of violence against a person or property. 18 U. S. C. § 373. Many states have similar laws.00 Reply

It's more fake nonsense and ragebait, see Sevenpointfive's post. Learn not to fall for it or you will end up being in a constant cycle of panic and rage.

@DryGermanGuy Bullshit! I guess all those stories are fake, right?
- 8 mo
People are protesting for no reason?
- 8 mo
What protests exactly are you referring to? Lots of this are just repetitions, ragebait or blown out of proportions. But facts are facts, most people have ZERO media literacy. Something posted on Facebook means nothing to me, facts-wise.

Are you serious? Wake the fuck up! You really think mainstream German media will report that and is a trustworthy source?
You can't be this ignorant - 8 mo
We doing actually quite well with our German media landscape here. And not only because you don't speak a word of German you will have a hard time convincing me otherwise. But according to Gwendoline this is about something supposed to have happened in the UK.
- 8 mo
@DryGermanGuy But why is it so hard for you to believe it just becuz it came from Facebook when there have been multiple cases like that.
- 8 mo
Because most people are simpletons that can't tell their ass from a hole in the ground and that are just those without malice. Snapping a pic with your phone, invent some juicy story and ready is the ragebait for clicks and thumbs and 15 minutes of fame. So Joe Shmoe can howl and scream and wring his hands about the injustices of "the system", "them" or "the deep state".

Exactly that's Britain today. A judge can jail a person for livestreaming criminality happening which is actually evidence in itself
- 8 mo
Exactly
Are you still in the US or back in the UK? - 8 mo
Thanks. You got it quite a bit wrong though. She absolutely commented in it, live (!) and fueled the flames. This could have ended much worse.
There were disturbances across this country after the fatal stabbing of three young girls at a dance class in Southport in late July.
“The violence was fuelled by misinformation and misplaced far-right sentiment,” the judge said.
“It spread to various towns and cities across the nation including, as we know, Tamworth.
"A hotel in Tamworth housing asylum seekers was targeted, with significant damage being caused and injuries sustained."
He said Bell was among a group believed to have been heading towards a different hotel in the town.
Apparently the judge threw the book at her. Rightfully? I don't know. All these live-streaming situations in riots/protests are often volatile and can escalate easily. The height of stupidity is of course to actively participate in one. - 7 mo
