Would you appreciate if your ex threw you a surprise party?

I am breaking up with my boyfriend within a few days. I still want to stay friends with him. We both know it isn't working, and I think we'll both be happier in the end. All summer he's told me "his birthday fun relies on me." And I want to still throw him a surprise party, as his birthday is in a few weeks. I will need to get his friends in on it, as he'll never make it to the party if they aren't lol. So guys, would you appreciate the effort of your (recent) ex girlfriend throwing you a birthday party? Or would you find that weird?

It ended amazingly. We both knew it wasn't working and both agreed we still want to be friends and hangout sometimes. Best break up I've ever had :) But I guess throwing a party isn't the beast idea. I'll just go out and celebrate with him on the day of

No, if you're thinking about breaking up and you're close to their birthday, be a decent human being and ride it out until his birthday is over. Nobody wants to spend their birthday mourning a recent break up, that's a horrible thing to do to a person.

And giving him a surprise party after breaking up is a HUGE slap in the face, not to mention pretty damn confusing for him emotionally.
