Honestly both should be an equal base salary. Then the ending total amount they receive should be based on revenue from all aspects. Obviously the men will still make more. Their audience volume is higher. That seems fair to me.
[Kelsey Plum] I’m tired of people thinking that us players are asking for the same type of money as NBA players.. we are asking for the same percentage of revenue shared within our CBA. NBA players receive around 50% of shared revenue within their league, whereas we receive around 20%.
They should do the reverse and pay the nba what wnba get. Because the sums are absurd. That said you need to deserve your pay, so unless you perform equally to a nba player don't expect the same pay. And they don't.

I'm a season ticket holder for the Seattle Storm, the women can ball. But the WNBA needs to improve a little bit before they get paid as much as the Nba. Also, the league only started like 25 years ago, the NBA has been around for almost 80.
Not deserved. It have employees who think they are worth more too, reality is, only a few make the real money and the rest are supporting roles.
If the NBA has 100million (?) in sales, and the WNBA does 10 million (?)... yet both organizations need overhead, does the WNBA CEO get the same salary as the NBA CEO make? No. Well then, either do the players.
NBA brings in about over 7 billion and the WNBA 60 million ish. But that isn't the issue. The NBA and WNBA are sepaarate organizations. I don’t think the WNBA has as much revenue as the NBA so it would be possible for them to pay their players as much as the NBA players.

It is the same for models and sex workers. Female models and sex workers get way more money since nobody watch porn for some fat fugly guy or the fashion is more liked by women so that female models get more attention and so more money. Unfortunately female athletes dont have much fan base as male athletes which have an impact on their income.

What? Wtf? I dont disagree with you. Where tf i said that NBA and WNBA should get the same money. I am tired of people like you who misunderstand it and dont read it what I write.
Hmmmm. . . let's see. . . about 3 people watch the WNBA and businesses aren't really clamoring to advertise on it. I'm not even sure they show their games on television for them to advertise on to begin with. And I don't think I can name more than one team and certainly not even one player.
So I'm not sure where they'd get the money to pay NBA type salaries to their players. . .

@TrainingDay Cool. Well, sort that out with your employer then. I personally don't give a shit what a business I have no interest in pays its employees. Who even owns the WNBA? Is it the same people who own the NBA?
It sounds fair on paper but the thing is, less people watch women's sports so they aren't making as much money for teams or whatever so if they're not making a much I don't think they should be payed much

I don't feel that they deserve equal pay because the NBA brings in more money than the WNBA. It's more popular and much more people go to NBA games and watch them on TV.

Would you want to watch under 16s play? Should they get equal pay too? Its kinds the same reasons why the women's game is not paid the same. Ultimately, sport is entertainment. The more it entertains the higher the pay.
There is inequality in sports right now, female sports are paid for more than men's, even though men's sports are watched way more they are being paid less. And it doesn't even make sense females basketball is super uninteresting, literally average height for male players is 6'7" and female players is 5'6". Even in football women are paid higher than men even though like 3 people watch it.

I don't think that It is possible male one get more sponsors and more rating and more people buy ticket for those matches. it is just like top player like Neymar get more than less famous players because people want to sponsor players like him.

@TrainingDay I was giving him as a example of successful athlete NBA is more popular in USA while soccer is more worldwide don't expect everyone to know everything about it
The most expensive teams spend 48.8% of their ticket revenue on athlete's salaries. With viewership down 34.5% or so, those salaries should be tumbling down to McDonald’s minimum wage soon.
Nope, that is specifically polling dealing with watching less or no NBA due to social justice politics in the sport. It can only get worse with time… Then salary cuts come… You know owners aren’t going to take the hit, so that means players should expect about a 71% reduction in salary. Then they’ll start bitching and moaning about money and playing like slouches which will further reduce ratings. Lol Bunch of morons.

When the WNBA games attract the same number of spectators and get the same TV contracts as the NBA then yes. This is how free enterprise works. There are winners and losers.

Professional sports are profit-making ventures. People earn in a manner commensurate with their ability to help their team win, bring in viewers/spectators, and otherwise increase the income for their team. Let the chips fall where they may.
Female sports aren't as popular as male sport and without that popularity they cannot get the same pay because they don't have the income to support it.

Then how are you going to pay everyone who isn't a player? The support team is like 80% of wnba if you cut their money by 30% ain't no one going to work as a Coach or ref for minimum wage.
I would need to know more. If they are actually demanding equal pay then some obviously think that is possible but the numbers don't speak to that. Like I said I'd have to do research. I mean did you really even do research before posting that title? And is the equal pay for the WNBA or other sports? The WNBA girls do so much for everyone so I don't know if it is about them or some other league etc

Thank you me for not being an idiot like the rest of these people who post without researching and think they are smart. Neymar is not in American leagues
@TrainingDay I was giving him as a example of successful athlete NBA is more popular in USA while soccer is more worldwide don't expect everyone to know everything about it
Probably. The NBA is hemorrhaging viewers due to their communist politics. Before you know it they’ll have to work for free.
'hemorrhaging viewers'? I think the NBA is mad known even longer before that. And is one of the fastest growing league for now in my opinion

Facts but isn't that because of the pandemic?

Yeah I agree but chill a bit sir😅
No one watches the WNBA. Yes the athletes work hard and it might not be fair but that's just how it is. Consequently, equal pay doesn't make sense

So unless the ladies start going braless booty shorts with WWE personalities, i don't see the possibility of viewer ship increasing.
huhh?😐
Well people like WWE right? And lots of men like women in skimpy outfits right? So there's that way of drawing a crowd for female sports.

I bet in a couple years, when the WNBA is made up of 100% men who identify as women, they will still not be making NBA money...
