So I couldn't wait to get this take out there. We have been hearing about nuclear fusion for decades. Ever since we started building atomic weapons, we were told this was going to be a reality. But scientists could never figure out how to build a reactor that produced more energy than they put into it. We could create bombs. But that ain't no reactor. If you cannot control the "reaction", then you are going to blow up something.
So we seemed to finally have figured out how to use magnetic fields to manipulate this superhot plasma to force fusion. We are literally converting mass into energy. And there simply is no equivalent we know of when it comes to producing energy. Turning just a tiny bit of mass into energy is more efficient than any process we know of or can access.
And just thinking of what will be the implications of this when we mass produce fusion is inspiring. The stupid debate over oil, will be done. The political manipulation and exploitation over this stupid issue will be totaled. If engineers can make this portable, which we have no reason to believe that they can't, we can take these reactors to places that have no sources of energy now. We can end whole categories of conflicts that are over energy, oil, gas, or whatever. The source of energy is endless. We simply use hydrogen atoms. The byproducts are things we need and can use. . .stuff like deuterium and tritium.
I think most folks in the physics world had given up. Because it just seemed impossible that we would ever be able to control the reaction. But patience paid off.
