Many years ago, there was an ice storm that took down power for the entire area (thousands of people) for several days, weeks for some.
Neighbors got together and helped each other out. We had to use up the food in the fridge before it spoiled so several of us got together and had several meals, cooking on a barbecue grill fed by propane. It was Winter and temps were below freezing, so some of us kept food outdoors, safely packed inside Styrofoam coolers. A neighbor had a gas generator, and a neighbor electrician wired it up to a couple houses so that they could at least have periodic heat (electric start and fan, gas furnace). We manually bailed the basement sump pump area every few hours to prevent basement flooding. None of us went to work because work was out of power too. We finally got power back after 7 days. At night, candles and flashlights were used; we slept in the family room (where the fireplace was) and blocked off other rooms (closed doors, hung blankets) to keep the heat in that room.
Basically, we all helped each other out. It's interesting that it's usually only a tragedy like this that brings everyone together.
I have began two things. The first one is a wave of me recreating scenes from Jurassic World Dominion in LDD (maybe others Jurassic movies too but for now exclusively Dominion). Here’s the first one I made, currently working on the Final Battle

The second thing I’ve started doing is Concept Comics. Pretty much a rough draft, and once I learn how to make the book itself, I can start the official version. I also talk to a bunch of people too, it’s usually funny.
As someone who lived through Hurricane Sandy, I remember we lit candles at night to read, and being we had no power for 12 days we couldn’t do much. We had only a few days on our cell phones to talk to people before they eventually died out. We couldn’t cook but ate whatever was safe from the refrigerator. Lots of food was lost. About 7 days later we discovered a town library had opened up with a generator. We got on the computers, took out books, and spent time there. We noticed there were many trees that were torn up from the roots and laying across lawns and even a ramp bridge in town. Halloween was cancelled of course, and so no trick or treaters. We were bored ( one of my daughters hated reading), but we did what we could to pass the time. Play with pets, board games, talk to neighbors, that kind of thing.
If it's not due to a disaster, I actually really enjoy it. Life suddenly feels a lot more peaceful. Everyone is suddenly more present and connected. You can see and hear the little sights and sounds of life again, and enjoy them together. I can sleep at my natural circadian rhythm time, sunset.
If it's too hot or cold, or the food threatens to spoil, or other urgent things need to be done or medical devices get interrupted, then it gets frustrating. But I definitely don't miss light bulbs and entertainment.

Wait the 2 seconds for my whole house generator to turn on! And since my TV’s, and internet routers and equipment are all plugged into battery backup’s, the only issue I have is the lights going off for 2 seconds. The Tv, and internet all stay on the entire time.
I wish I had a generator, it'd make things easier. I find it can get boring if power is off for prolonged periods
I have a Generac, it was only a few grand, which added pennies a month on my mortgage.
Depending on the cause, I spend most of the time making sure my generator is running, to power either the furnace fan to keep the house from getting too cold and pipes from freezing, or to run the sump pump to keep the basement from flooding. If it's just a random blackout on a fair weather day, I'll probably head outside and enjoy the yard.
I probably scream. We had a blackout for 3 days to a hurricane and i used my money to go to a hotel I barely missed because everyone else had the same idea. My parents stayed here with no power, while I was with power. So if it clicked out, RIGHT NOW, i'd probably panic and try to read my book or something... and spam call the electricty company.
Depends on the cause, if it is a thunder storm, I'd go outside and enjoy the show. If it is wind or other things, I still might do the same.
If its a major earthquake, I'm probably going to be evacuating my damaged house.
If it is cause some idiot hit a power pole and knocked power out, I and its too hot or too cold or going to take awhile to get it online, I'll go get my camping generators out and hook them up to stuff.
After setting up the emergency power for the fridge and freezers the it will b put on a pair of headphones plug them into a MP3 player and listen to random tracks, lay back and read a book until power comes back on, if the power is not back on by 5PM, it would be dig out the camping stove and cook a meal.
Had a power outage last year when a snow storm hit Texas. For like three days we didn't have power so electricity would come on but just for 30 minutes. Had a stove to keep warm and just rough it out for those days with whatever was in the fridge. Wished we had a generator as I never expected a storm to take out power in the entire city.
that means the AC goes off... so I go outside right away, and hang out with the cats and other neighbors as well if is night time
if it is daylight time, I go to the backyard with my cats, instead
Get the generator ready but probably not run it till 5+ hours into an outage. Get out the emergency candles, batteries, cooking equipment. Get my trust rifle and handgun ready for action.
I do not have power outages I have solar batteries and a generator. My TV and internet are satellite and phone is cell or switches to WIFI calling if cell goes out.
I get my generator going, get candles ready and so on
Let's just say that nine months after the November 1965 power outage, a lot of babies were born! Draw your own conclusions!
If I got company it's boardgames if light allows it. Otherwise I can just enjoy building something with my large Lego collection.
Surf the internet, watch Netflix, phone a friend.
I've got my internet router connected to a UPS. ;-)
i have 2 power things for my phone that last almost a day each so I can still use my phone most of the time
I like to sit in darkness & contemplate life until the power comes back on. No matter how long it takes.
Grab a gun and guard the door, people take advantage of power outages to break into homes, what else am I gonna do, watch TV? Lol
Actually i have never seen a power outage in years unless its planned cause of the heat which they do at night to reset it for a hour but im usually sleeping by that time lol and never noticed it only once i noticed it but went fight back to bed lol
Grab camera go out to get photos in day
At night get flash light play a boeard game or read
Crank up the generator and cuss Biden gas ⛽️ prices…
We used to light candles and play games, but we have a generator now.
Pull my hair out and pray for the power to come back on! I can't survive without electricity!
I would use my cell phone to listen to music or read a book if It’s daylight hours.
Meditate, write, go for a drive, hang out with my brother.
I don't remember what I did last time I experienced a power outage, very long time ago, when I was a kid/teen. But when the internet has not worked I spend a lot more time reading books.
By helping get it back on track, else helping neighbours get back on track.
Sleep, and wake up later. If not I play board game with my family
In the past I've used laptop to watch a film. These days I'd keep kids occupied as best possible
Candles for lighting. But usually my phone battery lasts if it's only for the day. Or go to a friend's house or family. Bring my chargers.
here the power's actually gone out twice two days in a row and I would read books to keep from being bored
Grilling up the meat in the fridge so it doesn't get wasted.
If it’s daylight then I like talking walks outside, sit in the front yard reading a book or listening to music on my phone.
if the weather is ok outside ill go outside for a bit if not then ill read or sleep lol
be the dumbass that I am and do what I did for 15 years - Attempt to go out and direct traffic
Fire up my generator, pull out my 'you loot, we shoot" sign.
I know what most do , because we all see 9 months later
Depends if it’s night or day, I still have plenty of battery powered things, have flashlights and a laptop
I have3 solor power bank I keep charged. So I just play offline video games or edit videos
sketch in the sunlight or complain about it into a pillow
I would meditate. Listens to songs. Talks to my husband. Spends time with my kids
