How do I stop McAfee anti virus from sending these pop ups?

I used to have McAfee anti-virus but switched to Norton right after they charged me for more than I had been paying. But they would not refund my money. Ever since then they have been sending me emails saying I had been charged for renewal, even though no charges were ever on my card. Now they are sending pop ups saying I have a virus and blah blah. Norton says everything is find and my Window security says no action needed. These stupid pop ups come on every 10 minutes. How do I stop them? I'm pretty sure my pop-up blocker is on yet these bypass it. Help!

I've noticed that all these pop ups are from Flowrating. com and that I heard they are an unsafe site.

The best way to stop dealing with viruses, is to stop dealing with Windows. You can buy a used Chromebook for under $100.00. The latest version of Chromebooks will allow you to install about one million Android apps. (make sure to get a touch screen)

My new Chromebook was $180.00, and I can do anything with it except, autocad or photoshop. (and I don't use either)

If you're using a desktop setup, with monitor, keyboard and mouse, then get a Chromebox.

That tiny little box is the entire computer. You just chuck your windows tower in the garbage, and plug in your monitor, keyboard and mouse into the box.

Whether you use the Chromebook or Chromebox, almost all the apps are free, and the operating system updates are free and seamless. And those stupid viruses are no longer your problem.

If you want to go the free route, then install Linux. There are about 600 Linux versions, but I recommend one of the Ubuntu derivatives. If your computer is strong, then go for Ubuntu. If your computer is a bit long in the tooth, then go with Lubuntu. Lubuntu is a more lightweight version of Ubuntu. But since they are all free, have fun trying them all.

Cinnamon, Peppermint, Mint and the list goes on. (Those are all Ubuntu derivatives)

I went through a fast food drive-thru yesterday, and the screen you talked to was using Ubuntu. Ubuntu comes from South Africa and it means compassion and humanity.

Also, you can do a dual-boot system where you split your computer brain in half, and run Windows on one side of the brain, and Mint on the other half. So when your puter fires up, you'll get a menu. You choose the operating system of your choice, and you go from there.

Bingo! Less is more. I gave a Chromebook to a lady on this site. She didn't have any Christmas gifts for her son. He took to it like a duck to water. He plugged it in, turned it on, and entered his Gmail address.
Bam! That's it. It boots in about 8 seconds and has a killer battery life. Then he went to the Google Play Store and was like that kid in a candy store. Currently there are only 3.5 million Android apps. And not all will work on a Chromebook, but about 2 million will. Windows and Apple can't compete with that.

I believe some anti virus softwares will plant a virus on your computer to get you to pay for an upgrade or a computer technician. Our computer of over 15 years crashed and died 3 days after we bought a virus killer. This is why you need reputable brands like Avira.

One of the first things I do is remove that anti-virus stuff. They want you to pay for it and most of the so-called "viruses" you get are actually the anti-virus software trying to get you to pay for it. It's better to learn to locate a virus and just remove it yourself. Beats paying for yet something else in an already expensive world. How do you learn... you learn how to do that just by learning how to remove anti-virus software. Anti-virus software will use all the virus tricks they're supposed to protect you from to make sure you pay some money. Master the art of getting rid of anti-virus software and you've already got it mastered.

Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and watch your task manager for a second. You'll see their bullshit in the activity making those popups pop... that's where I start. As soon as I figure out the source of all their bullshit, I delete everything attached to their handy work.

Right click what you see is causing the popups and then open file location. Click their files and hit delete. You'll sort of have to become a detective of your own at that point... they'll hide reinstall files so once you delete it, it will just re-install itself. It's one of those things that I'd start telling people to just figure it out (I was an office bitch). I worked executive admin, I wasn't the IT guy, so once they asked me to fix shit a little too much... I would start telling people to just figure it out.

And that's basically what you'll have to do... figure it out. Youtube could lead you through the process the first time or two, but you'll know how to do it after the first couple of times.

Boomer jokes aside, when you see the popup, right hit your bottom bar (with the windows start button) and open the task manager. You want to verify the executable causing your pop-ups.

Anti-virus consume a lot of RAM and CPU resources. With the task manager open, verify there are no McAfee executables running. If they are then do some research online as you may have to download an Uninstaller at the root level geared toward the Anti-virus.

Your other issue of course is the pop up references to some random sketchy website that will likely download a worm or Trojan on your computer when clicked. Don't click that popup at all, instead kill the executable from the task manager.

If all else fails, activate the recovery point (you will lose data).

For fun you could ask Norton how to prevent McAfee popping up those messages. Mind you Norton does similar when you unsubsribe so there may be some gentlemen agreement between them.

I'd install AVG. Windows Defender is actually not a terrible option these days either. I've used McAfee and Norton and AVG is better than both. My work laptop only uses Defender and I've had no problems with it.

This may be the result of malware and not actually McAfee. Have you run an uninstall on McAfee? If so and you still have a problem, trying running a system restore to the most recent point that is before this problem began.

Yeah I don't know. Maybe phishing. That is to say that they might be trying to get your bank information or install some kind of malware on your computer.

And they're not really targeting you with these specifically. Everyone gets these types of things, and as long as just a few click on 'em, it's worth it to them.

Actually, come to think about it, I just noticed all the pop-ups are coming from Microsoft Edge, and I'm guessing you're not just visiting a site filled with these kinds of pop-ups all the time, so you probably accidentally installed some kind of extension in your browser that is giving you all those pop-ups. If you could find it and uninstall it, you could get rid of them.

If you can't uninstall it completely, then the only chance is to completely re-install windows.

In windows its in the add and remove programs. If that doesn't work, then I would bring the computer to a repair shop for a complete re-instalation. That destroys everything on the hard drive so take your back ups.

If the McAfee is uninstalled on your behalf annd it still pops up, something unknown to me is fuckin up your computer.

You need to go into "My Computer" and visually see all the files. Then delete anything that has to do with McAfee.
