So how do I get these annoying search results to stop popping up?
There are a lot of websites (like the New York Times example below) that don't allow you to read their articles unless you pay for them. I am NEVER going to pay to read articles, when free articles are so abundant. Therefore, I would like to permanently ban/block all paid-article websites like NYT from my search results. Because it's a waste of my time to click the link, find out it's a pay-to-read site, then go back to the search results. I'm not even 1% tempted to pay even $0.05 to read any article, ever. Literally, NYT could offer me a lifetime subscription for $5 and I'd say kick rocks. Well, maybe for $5. But I would have to think about it, and I would still probably say no.
I don’t think you can block them because google also makes deals with some websites for search results to be favorable to them. The best you could do is search better. For example for things you don’t want to be in your search use the negative sign: -pay, -paid, -price. That will eliminate all websites with the word pay, paid, and price. You can make better list but that’s how you search more efficient

Use a personal block list add-on for your browser. I'm pretty sure both Chrome and Firefox have one. I don't know about other browsers.
