Looking down is a global epidemic. In the US, the average person spends more than 5 hours a day scrolling on their smartphone - sometime while walking, jogging, or even on a bicycle or scooter. Heaven forbid, but yes, even when driving. It can be a problem. On one April Fools' Day in Philadelphia, city officials used tape to make an "E-lane" on city sidewalks downtown. An "E-lane" is a fake path for pedestrians to use while they walk with their heads down staring at their electronic devices. The whole thing was supposed to make a funny thing to remind people to look up from their devices while walking city streets. Most people didn't get the joke, thinking that the E-lanes were real. In fact, when the tape was removed the city started to get complaints from people who thought the E-lane was a great idea.
Are you one of the ones who do this? Not paying attention to your surroundings? So, which of you doesn't hold your head up, especially when driving?
