He owes you the money.
He said he'd pay it. He might not be happy about it but he is 100% to blame. I don't see how you could possibly be to blame for this. You were doing him a favor. You ordered it and it was too late to cancel. That is not your fault in any way.
If you are nice enough to do it again, make it very clear ahead of time that once you order he can not cancel. As soon as you submit the order, it's a done deal.

This is why you never take such requests unless 110% certain. As it's YOU, and not him in the shit for it.
There is nothing you can do, but maybe accept the delivery and then ask for a refund as it's "not the right light".
Might cost you a little to return it back, but it's better than paying the full amount as you currently are.
Nobody is to blame. Shit happens. He wanted it cancelled but it was too late to cancel the order as the seller had already sent it. He can either pay for the light or you can return it for a refund.
