Are Smart watches awesome or a waste of money gimmick?

I know different generations have different taste. As a gen xer, I've always wore a watch it was usually digital sometimes analog. In recent years with the technology boom where they want to push more and more technology on you everywhere possible in your life. I mean you have to download coupons for the grocery store for crying out loud. But when I see people wearing a smartwatch I just kind of roll my eyes and just say why? It's like you have your phone which is a much bigger screen why the need for the smartwatch other than the companies getting more money from you. I draw the line there the smartphone is enough for me, to me smart watches are a gimmick and just an excuse for your you to give your money to them. For a watch I wear a Casio G-shock which is probably considered an old school watch since it's just a digital watch with no internet. But it's very rugged and durable military grade and to me kind of looks badass. The current one I own I've had it for at least 3 years now got it for $60 on eBay. When I hear people paying hundreds of dollars for a smartwatch on like it's just a waste of money not to mention they are FEMININE AND DORKY looking... in my opinion. Plus with smart watches it's one more gadget you have to plug a charging cord into and charge charge charge with my G-Shock none of that nonsense just replace a battery every 5 years. What are your thoughts?

Depends what you use then for. I for example use my smartwatch to track my data, when i use the bike to ride to work.

They are also quite handy if you want a quick look wether or not the massage your phone recieved was important or not.

But in the end its for you to decide wether or kot you want to pay 100 bucks for it.

I guess the prices have come down I remember in 2019 a grocery store managers told me they paid $500 for their Apple watch and I was like no way that's ridiculous. But for me I would not have one regardless of the price because again to me they are feminine and dorky looking and I don't need the Internet on me at all times I can unplug and be totally fine.

💯 agree , but some people love technology so much they can't stop they just keep going and going like the whole Alexa thing connecting your appliances to it it's like no no no. Besides the money factor to me it makes people more lazy and dependent on the technology. And personally I don't think I want my washing machine running while I'm not at home

I love technology too, but "smart" is not the best direction for it.

Yeah technology can be convenient make things easier for us but I've always had the mindset of like okay it's cool but don't go crazy with it don't come obsessed with it

I don't think AI software is cool or convenient, I think its a hassle that makes everything much more difficult, and that its annoying spyware that steals jobs, steals information, and stalks people to shill out advertizing.

I remember in 2019 asking the manager at my local grocery store how much she paid for her smart watch and she said $500, I was like why are you insane? It's like no thanks I can do a lot better things with $500 instead ofa dorky looking gimmick smartwatch

Glad to know you have common sense sadly some people are so drawn in by the technology and I think there is a thing called technology addiction. It is a real thing

Depends. Not a watch person, despite owning several.

But smart watches are more for people who need the conveniences of a phone, without the weight. They don't replace a smartphone, but can emulate some of it's features, hence why they are still around.
