The Young Elites Series: Book 1 Review

I love this series so much. The 3rd and final book, 'The Midnight Star' comes out next month! But I want to review all the books. So this review is for the very first book in this series, which is also called 'The Young Elites'. I'll give 4 reasons for why I <3 The Young Elites:

The Young Elites Series: Book 1 Review

The Anti Hero Theme

The main character is Adelina Amouteru. She's the ultimate villainess and runs the series! Instead of being the classic hero, she makes her way through her world using evil and evil powers. She's a Young Elite, which means that after getting extremely ill her body developed the ability to use demonic powers. She discovers her powers after running away from her family, and meeting other Young Elites who have their own unique powers too.

The Physical Characteristics of The Characters

It's so cool! The characters can have different hair colors that are called markings from the Blood Fever that gave them their powers. Adelina has gray hair, and other Young Elites can have streaks or have their hair totally change color like how Adelina's did. They can also have physical markings. Like Adelina has an eye missing, and others like her can have bruises or huge scars.

The Plot Twists

I was so surprised with how Marie Lu wrote this book. The ending wasn't predictable at all to me, and what led up to it was intense. It didn't read like a standard YA novel at all. It was awesome and she developed the characters so well, both the main and the side ones. Also, a key character dies which isn't something that most authors ever do or risk, so I thought that was very cool even though I hated reading it.

The Romance

In YA novels this can be so common I was dreading reading about it. But how the author wrote everything...I loved it. Nothing was cheesy and it was so awesome to read. It reminded me of Alanna and Jonathan from the Lioness series, but this was better since in the end...I can't spoil it, but I think the main characters romance ended realistically in a way.

So this book was awesome, and I've bought it and read it over and over again. It's a great read and I recommend it to anyone.
