Hey SEuclid, what is "common sense" gun control other than a sound bite that implies anyone who disagrees with you lacks common sense? Quoting political sound bites is meaningless.
It would probably take an investment. It's a question of whether the board/ govournment is willing to invest in training teachers safety measures, Additional Scurity staff, Security system updates etc. Or maybe it would be a good thing to make a non-profit organisation for. Parents and so many other people can donate to the good cause of keeping schools safe and secure.
There's a big difference between a shotgun and a machine gun. Shotguns hold one, two or five rounds. They are used for hunting and are short range compared to any rifle.
That is a stupid question that has an obvious answer. To defend freedom. The first step of any totalitarian government is to disarm the people and control the news. We have people compairing Trump to Hitler but these same people want to disarm so a real Hitler can rise to power. Foolish. Sad
Also guns are shown to reduce robbery murder and mass shootings in communities. Look at Chicago when they temporary allowed ccws most crime dropped 50 percent. And ccws have prevented more mass shootings than any other form of action. Also look at France if you want to see how a gun free country can get shot up all the time.
@Rhettsbeardoil Lol you're already ruled by a functional retard, you live in a two-party system where running for office is so expensive that it's basically only possible if you sell your soul to corporations, your intelligence agencies spy on everything you do, your country is awash in firearms (due to the same soulless lobbyists), and you're talking about tyranny? Seriously? That is laughable. That is perverse. That is delusional.
Regardless of France United States has a less mass shootings than many European countries. On top of that the United States is systematically controlled by both parties and larger functioning entities whom you might say control's reaches far past Nato countries. Its not far off to believe these steps torward greater goverment interference inst leading torward genocide. Dont down play the constitutional right of organized militia. Retard.
@Rhettsbeardoil You're the retard. Unless you can point to the European country with more mass shootings than the US... But of course, that is merely a fiction you invented because it sounded good, not because it's grounded in reality. Your well-regulated militia sure is working out well, huh? Killing lots of kids. Bravo.
All of thoes people were taking seritonin reupatak inhibiters y are u defending crazy people in your last post despite them causing all this then attack freedomes of the law abiding citicenz who don't do mass shootings the logic doesn't follow
@majorG The U. S. has 325 million people, France had 66 million. Now you need to take into account suicides, defensive uses of firearms, and how the vast majority of gun violence is gang on gang. Please do some research before spouting more bullshit
@BeenShook Okay genius. That might be why they measure that stuff PER 100,000 PEOPLE... So that you can compare rates. Smart, huh? In other words, total population is completely irrelevant. So you're fine with gang members killing each other and people offing themselves? Okaaaay...
@Rhettsbeardoil It's in some cases difficult to compare assault rates, because they are tracked differently. Homicide statistics are pretty comparable, because any non-total-shithole country manages to track the large majority of its homicides.
The U. S. homicide rate is -way- higher than western or northern Europe, significantly higher than Canada, Australia, nz, much higher than the similarly wealthy parts of asia. See en.wikipedia.org/.../List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate for a summary, though the odd one you can dig at if you like and sometimes find a year or two more current.
At least you're looking at a statistic that does account for population because I've argued this before with plenty of people who haven't. As for people who commit suicide, there are plenty of other means and honestly if someone wants to kill themselves that is none of my business. As for gang crime, the issue is not gun assecibilty, most of which are illegal by the way, that violence stems from a drug problem not a gun problem. Also there are an estimated 2 million defensive uses of a firearm annually in the U. S.
The achivments we have made as a country arnt measured by homicides. If you dont like it here get your ass out and take your negative opinions with you...
@Rhettsbeardoil Below average in the world? Yes. It's safer then the majority of third world countries, but has 2-5x the homicide rate of pretty much everywhere else in the first world.
For the record my belief is that U. S. gun ownership is the result of the violence, not the cause of it, but anyway, we start with facts and then build theories/opinions.
I said their are over a 150 "nations". Countries. The chart you linked to shows 14 or 15. It is a comparison by nation and only includes 1/10 of all nations. Actually, if you look at the nations on that list, many of them have high rates of gun ownership. the US has about 101 funds for every 100 people, but guns are only owned by 30% of the population (legally). This implies more guns per gun owner. Gun collectors, in some cases. Serbia, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia have much higher murder rates, but about half as many guns. Norway has about 30 guns per person and has one of the lowest murder rates.
I understand that. The the ratio of gun ownership to murder rate flips if you look at every nation on Earth. For example, taking the chart you've shown on murder rate and comparing it to gun ownership, their appears to be a correlation. If you look at the world as a whole, you see a parabola shaped distribution. The US has the highest gun ownership per capita, but is in the middle in terms of homicide. For the countries shown as peer nations, it seems that the ratio of gun ownership to homicides is about equal. More guns corrolates to more homicide. But, in other countries, the opposite is true. This implies (and I believe) that other factors are involved. It's also important to note that correlation isn't causation. I'd also look at poverty levels, religious an cultural homogeneity
Full-auto weapons are ineffective in almost all circumstances. I'm guessing you've never seen how much damage a marksman can do with a semi-auto rifle.
@jdrrichmond it’s smack in the middle of a bunch of third world countries. Doesn’t that seem odd? Why is it so much higher than every other developed nation?
I will say again I think us gunnownership overall is more a response that homicide rate than its cause. But it’s farcical to suggest it’s not a massive outlier.
America is a violent country. But, like in any country, the vast majority of it's people aren't. The news and political talking heads only talk about tragedies like the one that started this post. Look at some other statistics. This is an iteresting article. www.safehome.org/resources/gun-laws-and-deaths/
@jdrrichmond that is interesting and is the strongest data I’ve seen showing restrictive laws being associated with less homicides when comparing states.
I believe he stole it from his folks, but not a hundred percent sure and it will get to the point where no one will be able to buy an assault rifle anymore. xx
I don’t see it happening in the US, but in Canada or Switzerland for instance, both of which have quite high gun ownership, there are -strict- rules around storage. Basically all your guns have to be locked in safes when not in use. That would make it hard for troubled teens to grab weapons. However it would also mean you give up the idea of guns being on hand for self defence - which is a major idea in the US but not at all in other developed nations where guns are almost entirely viewed as being for hunting, or in a few cases, for militia type military resistance.
Yes... Lets teach rapists not to rape and criminals not to... Wait... I think someone's said this before somewhere... Ah, yes, the original quote is "Swiper no swiping". If you only stepped out of your cave, you would realize that you can't solve mental health issues or poverty with "better parenting".
Because the libs are more interested in taking away people's guns then looking for other solutions, and the consequences are too busy with getting rid of the illegals.
I know right all they have to do is let teachers have guns but apparently the government disarming us is more important then children's safety dam Nazi communist totalitarians
Nice circular logic bro. If your country wasn't full of guns, there wouldn't BE an active shooter. That phrase would be unknown outside of law enforcement. But we all know it. Because of your country's retarded gun laws. Which, by the way, are wreaking damage beyond your borders.
You guys live in a society where you can go to jail for Facebook comments and flipping off a traffic camera, not to mention a government that decides if you love or die if you get sick.
The UK is a prime example of why you NEVER give up your guns. If I was the father of Alfie Evans I would have stormed that hospital armed to the teeth.
Take the UK for example as in ban handguns only to have nothing change? Even if you did mange to get every single gun out of the street, something called cars still exist. Remember what happened on Westminster Bridge?
@UniqueUserNsme-“just change the gun laws”? Are you brain dead? No one believes that will make any difference, if you don’t know the difference between us and the UK - our values, our culture , all are different. English are used to not having individual liberties, they don’t value their national heritage like we do/ the UK is barely recognizable as the way it was in 1945- it is invaded by Islam and refugees who don’t have a fuck about the English people it is sad.

COMMON SENSE GUN CONTROL
why did he need a shotgun. why do civilians need machine guns? WHY
You want to ban shotguns? Or are you being sarcastic?
why do civilians need shotguns?
answer me why we need SHOT GUNS
OR MACHINE GUNS
To avoid a possible tyrannical goverment in the next half century. Good enough?
There's a big difference between a shotgun and a machine gun. Shotguns hold one, two or five rounds. They are used for hunting and are short range compared to any rifle.
Regardless of magazine capacity and rate of fire the majority of gun related crimes are commited with a handgun. So you what ban handguns?
That is a stupid question that has an obvious answer. To defend freedom. The first step of any totalitarian government is to disarm the people and control the news. We have people compairing Trump to Hitler but these same people want to disarm so a real Hitler can rise to power. Foolish. Sad
Rhettsbeardoil is right
Also guns are shown to reduce robbery murder and mass shootings in communities. Look at Chicago when they temporary allowed ccws most crime dropped 50 percent. I'm a registered libertarian I don't live in the two party system
@govgovigovioto You're probably too far down the rabbit hole, but America's gun deaths rate is 22 times France's.
O it's delusional to learn from the past I guess all of our history teachers are delusional
@govgovigovioto Remind us about the last time libertarians held power?
What about murder rate or is it so much worse when someone uses a gun instead of a knife.
Actually y don't u just move there and stop trying to oppress americans
Regardless of France United States has a less mass shootings than many European countries. If you take away guns, then they will build bombs instead. Treat the source, not the symptom.

@BeenShook Dude, that's what -rate- statistics are for
*facepalm*
I have references but i can tell you for fact US is ranked 14th in violent crimes mass shootings included.
@Rhettsbeardoil It's in some cases difficult to compare assault rates, because they are tracked differently. Homicide statistics are pretty comparable, because any non-total-shithole country manages to track the large majority of its homicides.

@Rhettsbeardoil That would be behind countries like Guatemala, Liberia, etc. Nice achievement!!!
At least you're looking at a statistic that does account for population because I've argued this before with plenty of people who haven't. Skimming your holy grail wiki it seems they say US is still below average. Yes?
@Rhettsbeardoil Below average in the world? Yes. It's safer then the majority of third world countries, but has 2-5x the homicide rate of pretty much everywhere else in the first world.
For the record my belief is that U. S. gun ownership is the result of the violence, not the cause of it, but anyway, we start with facts and then build theories/opinions.
@Thisperson98 "The suspected Santa Fe gunman possessed a shotgun and a.38 revolver that had been legally purchased by his father".
Very 'Murican thus.
Look at that, shitty parenting and mental health. The real issues, not guns.
@BeenShook A [probably repeating] shotgun and a.38 revolver should not be in the hands of a 17 yr old.
Instead if looking only at the rate of gun deaths, look at the murder rate. The US is right in the middle of the pack.
@jdrrichmond www.statcan.gc.ca/.../c-g04-eng.gif
There are over 150 nations. That represents 1/10.
@jdrrichmond it's crime RATE /100,000 population. Relative crime rate thus, not an absolute number.
I said their are over a 150 "nations". Countries. The chart you linked to shows 14 or 15. It is a comparison by nation and only includes 1/10 of all nations. @jdrrichmond The chart mentions 'peer countries' , thus countries similar in civilization, incomes, health etc.
That's why I picked that one.
@govgovigovioto http://i.imgur.com/G7vGGct.jpg
I understand that. The the ratio of gun ownership to murder rate flips if you look at every nation on Earth. Political strife, mental health, general happiness and satisfaction.
@jdrrichmond Whatever you reason about it, the result is the US being the one with the highest gun homicide rates.
Full-auto weapons are ineffective in almost all circumstances. I'm guessing you've never seen how much damage a marksman can do with a semi-auto rifle.
@TheBillusBillus I shot with a lot of guns, from single shot.22 pistol to assault rifle, to heavy machine gun to bazooka to 105 mm howitzer.
It isn't. It's smack in the middle, unless you cherry pick the countries to compare it to.
@jacquesvol Love how you use the term "assault rifle"... Repulsive. Disgusting.
@jdrrichmond Just follow American news and you'll know.
MajorG, where are you from?
BeNicetogirls - good answer.
A 12 Gauge loaded with bird-shot is very effective for dealing with home intruders less than 40 yards away.
@jdrrichmond it’s smack in the middle of a bunch of third world countries. Doesn’t that seem odd? Why is it so much higher than every other developed nation?

Issues are never black and white. Calling for "common sense" legislation is pointless if no one can say what that is.
@jdrrichmond that is interesting and is the strongest data I’ve seen showing restrictive laws being associated with less homicides when comparing states.
It also shows states will high rates of gun ownership and low rates of homicide. Read further down.
