I can't tell why those protesters were hit from that extremely short video clip. I know the protesters did not have permission to march on an on ramp to an interstate highway. It was nighttime and it appeared visibility was compromised. it also looked like the driver was speeding, panicked and lost control. The fact that one of the people hit is dead and the other in critical condition is punishment enough for those protesters. The other protesters are likely shaken up, too. It was incredibly foolish to mount a protest without permission, police escort and in the dark. The group should be fined and those fines given to the driver for therapy and car repairs.
Both parties are at fault. The protesters choosing to be dumb and intimidating the driver. And the driver for running over people. I can only see it as the zombie apocalypse or something, but until showed, both are at fault. Ethencity and so called racehave nothing to do with it. It's just common sense.
Other. What pauses me was the willful action of the motorist. A most, it was intentional vehicular homicide and at least criminal negligence. Had it been me, I would have slowed down and kept driving slowly to give them the opportunity to get or be pushed out of the way. One guy's opinion. Those two women were not creatures from Aliens.
The problem there is that the goons then start pelting cars with bricks and smashing in windows. Moreover, that looks like a freeway on-ramp, so speeding up is a given.

The motorist was on the main highway. The on ramp was to the right and the diamond lane to the left. I agree. Those Lefty's are goons. So was George Floyd. Neither the motorist's behavior nor that knee were justified. Both went too far. Your witness.

1.) These rioters had no business being on the highway, blocking it and deliberately endangering themselves.
2.) The driver had no business driving up to and around that vehicle barricade on the shoulder that fast. What if it had been an actual accident scene? Or a pop-up emergency construction site, like pothole repair?
I have no sympathy for those who deliberately endanger themselves and disrupt the lives of innocent people. However the driver here was dead wrong and should be charged. This incident took the negative focus away from where it belongs, the assholes on the highway and all the assholes destroying businesses and property across the country.

While it's tragic to have people hit by cars, you have to expect it if you are in the middle of a path where people drive fast. Some will even argue the people blocking the freeway are "terrorists." They are intentionally trying to intimidate people and have used violence for a political agenda.
Intentionally blocking someone's path is at least harassment, and as much as false imprisonment in most states. Harassment is usually also considered an assault. If you do it in a way that's threatening, it's menacing.
These aren't pedestrians, they're criminals. Especially because people have had windows smashed on their kids, been shot, and been hit with bricks and other objects, it would be perfectly reasonable to fear for your safety if you encounter it, and you have every right to defend yourself, and sue for any damages incurred. I personally would sue the person doing the criminal act, the organization that organized the "protest", and the city for allowing it to happen.
That was satisfying to watch. Do you see what happens when cars stop? They end up smashing the car and the driver side window, followed by ripping the driver out of the vehicle and beating them to nearly death.
So yes I love seeing these IDIOTS run the hell over. Pay for the vehicle would be too hard to enforce.. these women got smacked HARD and thrown up and about at least 10 feet in the air so that’s probably punishment enough.

@Taktagamo_Monisense you know I myself do not want anyone to get hurt and I have a weak stomach when it comes to gore/ I saw the video where a lady opened her door to get a clearer picture while driving through the safari zoo.. the lion mowed her in front of her family. I mean just another example of yeah thats so messed up for the family to see her get eaten by lion 5 feet away but.. I feel bad for the family not so much for her. What I’m getting at is, if you want to put yourself in harms way more than we have to in our day to day lives.. then why should other people feel bad for what happens to you?

After seeing people around me die from diseases out of their control recently, with another one just diagnosed with throat cancer who’s never smoked.. I guess I just don’t have so much sympathy for those who put themselves in dangerous situations. We only have one life, you’d think people would make better decisions.
If the highway was officially closed down for the city to accommodate the protest I understand. But to just group together and make your own road block.. as you agreed, it’s complete stupidity and I can’t feel bad to for those hurt or killed. You can clearly see there are other cars parked across the highway, but the driver doesn't slow down at all.
When i see a car standing across the street, i would always asume there was an accident, slow down asap.
So the driver of the car was way too fast and is partially if not solely to blame for the accident.
I have zero sympathy for "protestors" who block highways. They have no business being on the highway on foot. At the speed you go on highways, it takes a while to brake and it severely limits your ability to maneuver so they were begging for such an accident to happen. Even then, they are lucky nothing worse happened. Soon, people like that will jump under a bus and then wonder why their skull turned into a pancake...

I don't have an opinion except they risked and they got hit. I have been to protests in my country and the authorities don't listen and people don't care what your cause is.
It was for economic reasons but people didn't listen. The businesses were reauctioned off despite us paying the lease. At least 1000 people and their families were affected due to this

In my opinion the person in the car should be sued, it sorta looked like it hit was intentional but I'm not completely sure (If it was intentional the person in the car should go to jail) and let the injury or death of the 2 people who got hit by the car be a lesson for the protestors to fucking stop standing in the middle of the highway. I'm still debating whether the protesters should also be sued for standing in the middle of the highway which was illegal in the first place and does endanger drivers especially since it was dark out and this whole thing wouldn't have happened if they weren't standing there. I don't have much sympathy for the protesters, they should have know the dangers of standing in the middle of a fucking highway and the driver should have stopped. They both were in the wrong.

I think they absoultely should be charged. Last i checked protesting or not, its illegal for block a highway. Here in my state, its legal to hit them if they are blocking. City streets are different, but highways are off limits.

I had faced demonstrator's road blocks myself; and did not agree with them. But I give away nothing by slowing down and passing them safely.
@Guanfei there were road blocks so the driver should have noticed not to drive through. He kind of ignored them and just went on full speed. I don’t think he was malicious just completely ignoring his environment so negligent. But then it again it is a highway so driving fast makes sense. But overall he’s at fault I think.

Also imagine someone (such as your mom or dad or anyone you care about) is having some sort of medical emergency. Getting to the hospital in time is crucial for survival and then bam ! The ambulance or maybe you personally threw them in your car to rush them over to the hospital.. regardless you or the ambulance runs into this protesting crowds.. the even slight delay results in your loved one dying.

In the states if you saw the protests in the last month, they literally pull drivers who stop out of their vehicles and beat them down BADLY. I’d be surprised if there are no permanent side effects from the beat downs.

It is illegal to be a pedestrian on an interstate highway, parkway, turnpike, thruway, expressway, or any other limited access highway, along with most bridges and tunnels, void of traffic control devices, such as traffic lights and crosswalks. So no, pedestrians do NOT always have the right of way. With that said, the driver in this particular incident was wrong, and charged accordingly.

I never claimed or implied that it was legal to deliberately run people over on the highway. You falsely claimed that pedestrians always have the right of way, and that this incident didn't happen on a highway. I correctly pointed out the blatant inaccuracy of both of those statements.
A driver that has an established right-of-way (limited access highway, green light), and accidentally strikes a pedestrian that does not have an established right-of-way (green light, crosswalk with green crossing signal, sign that clearly states "Pedestrians Have Right-Of-Way" or "Vehicles Must Yield To Pedestrians") will almost never face criminal charges, unless the driver was driving at a high rate of speed and/or leaves the scene of the accident.

Now that one of the rioters has died from her injuries, one of the charges against this driver will be raised accordingly. The change will probably be raised to Vehicular Homicide, and rightfully so, since the driver's actions were clearly deliberate in this incident.

The pedestrian always has the right of way according to the DMV and traffic laws, even if they're j-walking or trespassing. You should not be driving in the USA if you think that a car is every in the right over pedestrians.
That is highly inaccurate, bordering on deliberate disinformation. I suggest that you brush up on your local traffic laws and register for a defensive driver's class. In actual application, if what you were stating was even remotely true, then every crosswalk traffic light in the entire United States would be a constant continuous solid green at all times and every vehicular traffic light would be a continuous blinking amber or red light. That is obviously not the case. What is the solid "Red Hand" light for? Hint: It's not a high five sign.

So you didn't know the full story before commenting, or you don't believe that Interstate 5 is a highway. It can only be one or the other.
Not every incident of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle is automatically a felony. Again, it depends on everything that I painstakingly laid out above. Where was the location of the incident? Who had the the actual right-of-way as correctly prescribed by law, and not the falsely assumed/perceived right-of-way? Was it an accident? Was the driver illegally distracted, like by a cell phone? Or were the driver's actions outright deliberate? Was the pedestrian acting carelessly or recklessly leading up to the incident? Or was the pedestrian distracted by a cell phone? All of these factors matter in an incident investigation, and every individual incident is different.
