No, I struggled to put my own kids through college. I should not have to put everyone else's kids through college too.

Free education *easily* pays for itself.
Indeed here in Europe we even offer free university classes to non citizens because even if a majority of them goes back to their home countries they're still such a huge contribution to the economy and earns so much in tax money, both themselves and indirectly through the jobs they enable for others, that they *easily* earn back that investment, not just for themselves but also the cost of all the people who *didn't* stay.
Cheaper education also lowers the cost of high skilled labour.
Making a whole host of companies viable that otherwise isn't, and creating a ton of jobs, both with and without education needed.
As for the "pushed to the left" thing...
That's more of a US issue caused by the complete lack of regards for science on the US political right.
Conservatives in Europe actually pays attention to science and the scientific process, are pragmatic and does what *works*, something that earns the respect of people who knows how to apply critical thinking and source criticism.
There's plenty of bodies of higher education here that actually tends to result in more students on average that's right wing, often libertarian right rather than left wing.
Part of why people with a university education often isn't conservatives is because they learn to not assume things being true or right.
Conservative viewpoints often argues for a status quo that isn't necessarily the best way to run a country, with flaws that's more visible to someone with a higher education.I agree with you. But I think the interest rates are outrageous. I feel strongly that there should be low interest rate programs for college tuition. I'm thinking of variable prime rate loans. College shouldn't only be for the wealthy.
There was a time when the average person could afford college. I blame privatization and deregulation polices of the 1980s for the increases in tuition. Publicly traded for-profit universities or the companies that own them are listed on the stock exchange. And such corporations have an obligation to maximize profits for their stockholders. The same thing happened to hospitals.
https://educationdata.org/average-cost-of-college-by-yearWhat happens when you have a permanent student. Meaning one that continues talking degrees with no intentions of ever getting a real job!
It was just on the news that a small percentage of college grads actually get a job in their field of study. If college was free. Then they could become more careless in picking their field of study. Since they wouldn’t need to pay for it.
My other thought would be. If they studied to become like a doctor or lawyer. They should work for reduced fees when practicing to repay the tax payers that paid for their education!Nope, you took the loan out, you signed the contract stating you would pay it back, so honor your commitment.
So you by a car and don't feel you should pay back the loan, or a house?
Not my fault you didn't think it through before you took the money.
Now you get to be an adult and pay it back.
I have paid off every loan I have ever had early, and I am ahead on my home loan as well.- u
Free college means that even more people will attend when there are far too many people lready attending.
Fuck no!! YOU want to go to college, YOU pay for it!!
Besides, if the government pays for it, it's still not a free ride!! Guess where that money is coming from? YOUR taxes!! You lose, either way!!Nope. You're an adult, if you took a loan then pay it back.
Currently in the UK anyone can attend university regardless of academic ability. This is to ensure the maximum amount of paying students attending regardless of anyone getting a real education that benefits them or the nation.
Absolutely not.
But I think professors are exceedingly highly overpaid.
University costs are insane and not justified. No because, I don't want my taxes to be 50% of my income.
Absolutely not.
Government would go bankrupt then
