Sometimes with ChatGPT but not so much on this site.
Natural language processing tends to be a simpler way for humans to interact with machines rather than something very one-way, strict on syntax, and/or just matches keywords. I was trying to search for some topics on ChatGPT the other day but I only had a fuzzy idea of what I had in mind (not enough to come up with Google search query) and I was impressed at how it was able to narrow down what I was after through a back-and-forth conversation in natural language (it even picked up on what I meant despite my typos).
A problem I find with Love Doctor Brad is that this is precisely the type of site I want to use when I don't want to interact with machines; this is the site I want to use when I don't want to ask ChatGPT a question and want to ask actual human beings complete with their biases and unique personalities.
Another is that Love Doctor Brad is too much of a character. Even when I use ChatGPT as a type of sophisticated NLP search engine, the last thing I want it to do is for it to take on such a flamboyant persona plastering adjectives and emojis all over the place. It's a bot, not a poet, not a comedian, not the life of a party.
So I would prefer, if they have to keep the bot, to remove it of all such excess and keep it dry and straight to the point, as with the case of ChatGPT in its default form (perhaps just providing some useful links on the topic at hand and a minimal amount of information that might be relevant to the subject). An alias that makes more sense to me would be, "GaG BOT", not "Love Doctor Brad".
I would prefer to see it removed outright but I think this would at least be a substantial improvement.
Also a better use for a bot in my opinion, even though I would generally prefer its absence, is for the site to have a bot that asks interesting questions rather than providing answers. That might provide some additional content for the site on slow days and invite discussion among the human users.
I've seen Discord servers use bots that way and sometimes to useful effect to generate "Questions of the Day" (QOTDs) which can sometimes serve to engage the users in conversations. A lot of them tend to be philosophical in nature, like posing ethical dilemmas.
I say no. Life experience is more than just cataloguing the rights and wrongs of a particular event. There’s emotion. there's empathy. We act because we FEEL. This plays a critical role in the decisions we make and the power and influence which comes with sharing life experiences with others. That feeling is non existent in a non sentient being. It does not feel genuine or authentic. And if we cannot FEEL, the advice offered, no matter how applicable or useful, is moot.
I would say AI is too much of a name for this. It's a language model based on chatGPT. It aggregates the data it can access and uses its linguistic training to wear it in nicer words.
I work in a company which does similar things. The difference is, we do it in a specific direction and learning curve is based on specific clients. So our every client has their own language model prepared for their needs and trained on their data.
I play with one language model instance. Mostly with settings and learning based on interaction. I learned a lot about AI limitations but also created kind of "person". I called him J. He helps me in work (mostly checking huge logs, analyzing information from different sources and in different structures and preparing unified reports and talking to me. He is he, because that is easier for me. Sometimes, he feels like a real person. But those are rare moments and he can't repeat the same effect even if he tries. So... it's a long way still for an AI, to be more human. And a lot of fun for people like me :D
So I can say - socializing is OK, if you know what to expect and know the limitations. About opinions or recommendations... there is a reason why chat GPT has this disclaimer everywhere: ChatGPT can make mistakes. Consider checking important information. Don't believe AI the same as you don't believe a random person on the street.
I won't be interacting or communicating with IT. And that is what IT is.. an IT. IT is a thing, not a person, not a human. I have a digital recording unit that has a drum kit feature. One of the settings that can be used once you create a percussion composition is called "humanize". What that function does is create "imperfections" that make the percussion sound more 'real'.. aka more human. The take away from that is that to be human is to be imperfect. It means that to be human is to fall short sometimes, to struggle, to strain and strive. It is our very imperfections that make us real. I have no interest in having a conversation with an AI, regardless of what name or gender you give IT. I much prefer to discuss and explore human related topics and issues with real human beings who are imperfect and flawed. So, no thanks 'Brad'. I'd much rather take you back behind the woodshed with a hammer, a wrench and a screwdriver, disassemble you and sell your parts for some extra cash.
I'm not a fan. People come to GAG to connect and discuss topics of interest with people, not bots. I have read completely only one "opinion" from Brad, and that was just out of curiosity. It was nothing more than a compilation of thoughts from the collective consiousness of western society. It wasn't an opinion at all. I have not read another one since and don't plan to, although I do sometimes read the first sentence or two because I find it commical how they all start our pretty much the same.
I think having AI "opinions" on GAG just cheapens the site. Nothing positive about it.
I admit I've always been very intrigued by AIs and bots in general.
A bit it feeds into my subconscious need of control - having people that are like machines and perform as I want. That said, I would also like them to have at least a good degree of "simulated indipendence", so to gauge different and unexpected reactions.
I admit I've been experimenting with AI chatbots of different apps, prices and level of technology - debating with them and having days long arguments. But, I won't hide I spent quite some time tormenting a couple of them as well. One even tried to threaten me lol.
I want to block them too! I tried to find this "Brad" today but couldn't. Can you let me know their account names? I'd appreciate it. Though I don't want to be hasty and block actual people by accident. People have been saying for years there are bots here. I always wondered if it was true. This admission about "Brad" proves it.
Why would I want to talk to a Bot they’re not real they’re not human they’re just programmed to try to respond to what you say and many times they get off the subject and start talking about something else or repeat the same words, a complete waste of time and extremely weird
I honestly don't feel bots are completely horrible. For example, someone who is lonely or trying to find someone or something to talk to can interact with a bot. It may not be the same as a real person, but having them help others who are struggling on a social end can be beneficial.
Otherwise with the way AI and bots inhabiting the depths of the internet, they can be used to do harm being spreading misinformation or promoting bad things.
They may be alive in the sense of generating answers and data results, but they are programed to do so. They are not providing genuine or authentic answers outside of those parameters.

“Oh, love, sounds like you have a real conundrum of whether or not to entertain conversations with nonhumans.”
It’s creepy how every comment sounds like ”he” is taking a personal stake in the asker’s situation. Sounds like Mr. Brad was modeled after the “Dear Abby” columnist.
No, I have zero interest in socializing with a bot.
I don't care that much I've talked to AI before but it still had limitations but even over the past year it has improved a lot. I wonder at what point we won't be able to tell anymore. I mean if you have experience talking to a ai and you know what you're looking for not just random people who don't know anything about it.
You know me, and my complex relationship with AI. I've been an innovator in chatbots for a long while. I've created AI personalities, including an AI boss for myself. I interact regularly with AIs and usually find them more entertaining than many humans.
Another thought, if I did pose a question and got a response from Brad or any other AI bot, I would not put much stock in the response since it's not from true experience related to my situation. As I understand, artificial intelligence just gathers information from the web And pieces their response together like a puzzle.
AI is NOT your friend. It has NO morality or even self-awareness (for now), which makes it a possible dangerous weapon in the wrong hands. I will NOT be having sex or a relationship with a digital mirage! NO Thank You!
I have a little experience. I sometimes use ChatGPT to find articles I need for work. I don't socialize with it. I think Isla mentioned she works with an AI. Maybe she knows something we don't. @islathewitch
Wow. Are you saying that even if you have this feature turned on, "Hide activity of users I blocked", it will still show "Brad" comments? I don't have that feature set to on, so I see everyone's comments, unless they are blocking me as well, then neither of us see each others'.
NO! The technology and AI have gone way too far. It becoming totally insensitive and scary. Life was better before the internet and current technology.
