... because most guys will give us a hard time if we act all lovey dovey. We've got to maintain the tough guy image around or otherwise they will figure out it is all just a facade. :)
Guys act different around their friends because in the back of our minds we feel that our friends expect certain behavior out of us which is a part of immaturity on our part.
LOL. My girlfriend and I just had this conversation. We came to the agreement that it's just a guy thing. There are parts of our persona that we know exist (and our friends also know exist) but we choose not to reveal them in front of our friends. It's not hiding who we are, just simply not choosing (maybe subconsciously) to reveal them. We were their friend before you became our Girlfriend. And there is a certain expectation of behavior around them. It's allowed to change because of the Girlfriend (guys know this) but not too drastically. If it changes drastically, then we can be accused of being whipped. Not a good accusation.
Basically, as long as the behavior around friends doesn't treat you as second class, then just accept that he will be different (maybe even an ass) around them. That's who they want.
We also came to the conclusion that this does change over time. The longer you guys are together, then the more his behavior will come around to what you, and not they, expect. This may be the result of maturation, but I doubt it:) I stopped maturing at 25:)
I think mostly this has to do with psychology of the mind, when you hang around with someone for a long time you build sort of like a subconscious trust for them. And whether you notice it or not you try and act like the other, it's not a conscious action so most of the time the person themselves won't notice it.
Some guys can't act the real them when their with their friends. Their friends have some sort of expectations for each other and they can't be broken otherwise they will be picked on for a while. If your guy friend, or boyfriend has been acting different with their guy friends when you were there and he was disrespectful to you, that's messed up of him. Thats just an excuse and if he really likes you, he should be treating the same no matter where you are, even if he's with his friends. Its a guy thing!
