Why does my guy friend act different around me?

This guy can look anybody in the eye when talking to them even my friend and when it comes to talking to me he ends up looking to the side or looking behind me with a few glances at me when talking. Like I messed with him with out him knowing by moving his back pack when he wasn't looking an today he asked who moved it and I said why does it matter and right we I let a little smile out he saw and smiled adorably and stopped looking at me when talking but glanced occasionally. Still smiling. Now me and him used to fight all the time till he saw he was hurting me so I don't know if it's because he still just doesn't like me around and is trying to be nice or what.

If you used to fight then it might be that he still remembers that and he isn't as comfortable as he is around other girls

Like I don't kniw what his problem was but at the start of the year he just hated my guts but we ended up now like this. Does he still secretly hate my guts or something?
