Anonymous(36-45)+1 yWhere I'm from (the UK), the prom isn't really a big deal at all. All it is, is some small last school academic year celebration/party with some fancy dress. But I suppose that's all because we are 16 when we have our prom.
Our colleges don't tend to have proms. And the uni's have proms but everyone will be legal to drink unless the proms in the US so it's different.
I can honestly say, the girls here are like, "yeah prom. want to go with me? cool." and it's done. The guys really don't give much thought. They will go with anyone or anything if they so wish.
When I went to my school prom, I appeared on my own. Not because I can't get the girls because I was in fact the "school love pimp" back in my school days. I just wanted something different and nobody knew I was making appearance. I preferred it that way... until I noticed everyone was walking in pairs and I wasn't... nah. I didn't mind really. :D
I got a lot of attention when I turned up. :) That made my night.
I guess the prom is a big thing in the US.00 Reply

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yWell, completely honest I really didn't care about it, but my girlfriend is really excited about going to my junior prom. I didn't know until recently and she not only is excited about it, but is also freaking out about some stuff lol. So now, I'm honestly pretty excited. She looks jaw dropping and awe inspiring all the time but I've never seen her in a real dress and I'm really excited to see what she looks like. I've even planned out the perfect way to ask her to prom so that it will be really memorable, and honestly can't wait. That may be girly but its how I honestly feel.

+1 yprom was cool when I went but I wasnt excited about it. it was SO expensive I could have payed for a whole semester of community college with the almost 900 I ended up spending total
but I never understood what the big deal was..id rather go clubbing and that's free (usually)
and REAlly. guys just care about the things that are supposed to happen after prom00 Reply
+1 yI didn't dream about prom from the minute I found out what it was. I thought it was stupid, I went anyway and it would have been nice, everything was beautiful...And then the DJ played rap and hip hop for the majority of the night and I had a headache.
Then again I haven't been planning my wedding since I was 10...So I must just be weird.01 Reply- +1 y
Nah... I wanna go, just so I can say I did, but I'm not obsessive. (freshie!)
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yi am a girl and Prom is not that big of a deal. It just an expensive dance, where you get your expensive clothes all dirty. Its nice but really not that big of a deal.
things that are a big deal to me:
1. graduating college
2. wedding day
3. first child
4. winning the lottery or any large sum of money01 Reply- +1 y
Lol lottery... my luck sucks so...

+1 yI never attended prom. I was the usual outsider/geek/nerd.
I got beat up alot, and the girls would laugh when their boyfriends assaulted me.
not to mention no one even invited me as a date. so I had NO motivation to go to prom.
why spend a whole night in a room fulla people and still feel totally alone?
I did get my revenge a few years later after graduation. I was 21, working at a retail store, 2 girls showed up from the school, the remembered me, one of em had a boyfriend.
they had the nerve to come up to me, and act all friendly, and tried to explain I was some fond freind from school. at which point I exploded on the girls, told them they were never my friends, they laghed when I was being beaten up. they had the nerve to look surprised. the guy to his credit stayed out of it and kept his mouth shut. I got suspended for yelling at the "customers"
but it was worth it!12 Reply- +1 y
Yea yea!! lmao!

Nice to know a woman out there is laughing at my pain. =(
+1 yNever went. Despite the fact I was voted 2nd Prince... lol
I'd much rather have gone out and done something like bowling and dinner with a girl. A lot less pressure, and get a lot more out of it.
But none of the girls I liked were single at the time. No biggie though.30 ReplyI didn't care about any activity at my school. My graduating class had a lot of diverse people but most of those who were popular were conceited. Plus it was a bit expensive and I didn't have rich parents. Haven't been to a class reunion and don't care to either. I moved on with my life and while the idea of going back to see all those popular people change drastically, I'll pass. Besides, I know how it feels to be picked on and I wouldn't do it to others if given the chance.

+1 yProm is only an enjoyable experience for guys if they're taking their girlfriend. Otherwise, they couldn't care less or some (like me) actually dislike it.
I didn't go to mine, and I'm glad I didn't. I made it a point not to attend any school functions at all. I even skipped school on days of pep rallies. School to me was like work, if I didn't absolutely HAVE to be there, I wouldn't be caught dead there.20 Reply
+1 yfun but DANG it was expensive as hell. would've had just as much fun doing something else. My pron was $100 per couple and lasted roughly 4 hoursish. I can do the same thing (dance with my girl) at the club for $40 for a couple. way overrated. still kinda cool though. don't regret going but wouldn't go again
00 ReplyWell I'm not a guy obviously...
I skipped prom last year and I don't regret it.
I am a clubber. I like going to the clubs, so dances like that seem stupid to me.
I am going this year though...and hope it will be cool.10 ReplyLame. I should note though, I made a point of not attending any school events, I hated my school and only wanted to be there during class and that's it!
11 ReplyI missed mine. It wasn't a big deal to me. And I don't regret it lol.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yI would have loved to go to prom but I don't think any girls wanted to go with me. Nobody asked me to prom. But from what the guys are saying maybe I didn't miss much.
10 Replyi love prom
it was one of the amazing time of my life, my prom date was the most beautiful girl I've ever seen
she was my girlfriend =] never seen such beauty since10 Reply
+1 yhaha I never dreamt of it. It's just a dance to me. Nothing too special. Why do you look forward to it so much?

Idk I mean, prom has always seemed to be portrayed as this super romantic night. I guess I'm just overly romantic lol. Just the thought of the whole thing has always given me the butterflies! It really is just like any other dance, but I used to always daydream about who I'd go with, how he'd ask me, etc. I guess what really matters is who you go with. As for me, I'm going with a guy I've had a thing for for 9 years! So it will be just like I've always imagined!

Sweet! Good for you. I can more understand your wedding day being what you dream about, but prom is one of many dances in high school. IDK

The guy can easily be excited for it, but its nothing he's been like waiting for his whole life ya know?

I always had the idea the less time I spend at school the better since every time I was there something was going wrong for me.00 ReplyNo, I don't remember them ever talking about the prom when I was in high school. I think we had one but can't remember much about those days. So much more has happen in life since then. It's hard to place events.

+1 yI never went to prom in high-school I guess the real reason is that I was to shy to ask a girl to go with me. I wish I had gone though it sounded fun. but oh well.
10 Reply I didn't really care about prom. I went for the experience. I mean, you only get one prom. It was a lot of fun. Before and after.
