Why does he get all weird when I compliment him?

This guy and I are practically dating. We both like each other, and even though it hasn't been said, it's pretty obvious.

He'll compliment me and not get weird about it, but if I compliment him he gets kind of weird. He won't say anything about it or seem kind of awkward.

It's all over text, By the way. Why would he be so weird? He is shy if that means anything

Easy. He doesn't know how to take a compliment. I've noticed it in myself where I'll get complimented and I'll try to discount it. Later I'll think to myself "why didn't I just take the compliment?
