It depends on the situation. If you are out walking somewhere public, holding hands is an intimate gesture suggesting that you two are 'together'. If you are out doing something (say an activity, a sport) it may be better to just walk and talk with her and giving her a chance to breathe and be her friend. As they say, you are lucky if your true love and best friend is the same person. Sometimes, be lovers, sometimes be friends.

I would actually venture the guess that men like this more than women. They just don't admit it or act on it for fear of looking like a wimp or being to clingy.
