Why are girls so obsessed with their looks?

girls will do everything to be as pretty as possible to be a perfect 10--but yet their own boyfriend is like a 2. so why make a big deal outta looking good when your own boyfriend looks like Freddy Kreuger? why be so obsessed with your looks when looks don't even matter to you?

Many factors:

1.It's all about confidence. Some women don't feel pleased when they look their reflection in the mirror so they start taking more care of themselves, wearing nice clothes, applying more make up, just to feel good about their image.

2.The media is also to be blamed for this. It targets young women who are naive and easily influenced by magazines and celebrities, because of their unintelligent immaturity. Well, the result of this brainwash is the increasing number of young girls who use to copy wrong kind of role models.

3.The blame should be put on guys too. They expect girls to be good looking and let's be honest, It's a really rare phenomenon seeing an average looking guy dating with an "ugly" girl. Plus there are many guys who use to mock women who they think that they are unattractive by calling them fat or ugly. These women start feeling bad about themselves so they start developing low self esteem. That's why they try to hide their flaws by using make up or losing weight just to make themselves feel average or more attractive. You have to admit it, not everyone is blessed with beautiful features and good genes.

4.Lack of emotional support by their families, friends, and generally their environment. Do I need to say more? Lack of emotional support usually makes a person focus on shallow stuff like for example making themselves look perfect just to cover their emotional insufficiency.

5.Centuries and centuries society has taught women to be pleasing and aesthitically looking to men. They always have to be good-looking with perfect hair, flawless skin and pretty features to carry on their offsprings. Men usually got married to pretty women who were capable of taking care of their appearance. It's hard for women to let go of this psychollogy because it's still perpetuated to some extent by the media.Women on contrary didn't really expect men to be good looking, they wanted strong, independed men who were capable of showing leadership and taking responsibility of their actions.The majority of women nowadays are still attracted to these kind of men.That's just how instinct and attractiveness works and well that's the reason why you see "ugly" guys dating with good-looking girls.Because they had the guts to ask them out or because they have other more important qualities than looks.

Ps:Freddy Krueger is a little hottie, you just have bad taste in guys >:(.

And guys don't care about their looks? Haven't you ever heard that women dress up for themselves? ...and other women... NOT for guys. Why shouldn't we look presentable? Maybe we like a cave man sort of dude...messy hair, beard and all... I know I do! Haha x)

Evangelina answered perfectly. In fact, she stole the words right out of my mouth. Guys tell me all of the time that I don't need my hair all fixed up or makeup to make me pretty, but I wear makeup and fix my hair because it raises my self-esteem. The compliments I get from people mean nothing, it's what I think that counts.

Taking care of ourselves gives us a confidence boost and make us go from feeling "bleh" to feeling at least somewhat attractive.

Or low self esteem.

And the second a woman stops being obsessive guys will say she no longer cares about her looks or takes care of herself and let herself go.

And we do care about looks.I have yet to see an attractive chick with a freddy kreuger look alike unless his wallet is busting...even that is rare.

Because most girls aren't shallow. We look for personality more so than looks. Of course we won't date an ogre but we don't need a perfect 10. And many good looking girls don't consider themselves attractive and have a hard time getting approached by guys.

I don't know about shallow, but most women have high standards, more so than men. They want more in the personality department than men do with women. And personality has a wider range of subdivisions than physical appearances. It can take a man his entire lifetime to build his personality, but in his youth, he can be at his most attractive.

I think your personality is much easier to hone than your appearance. Your personality is innate from maturing over the years. At least, that's my opinion. And I, like many women, don't have high standards. Asking for a decent guy is too much to ask though. All I've experienced is assholes.

maybe if you did as most women actually do, tally up your standards a bit, you wouldn't experience those assholes :) But it's more than personality. An enlightened genius may have the most serene temperament, balanced mind, superb wisdom, great sense of humor...but he lives in a cave. You want life with him? And that's what I'm getting about "high" standards, least for American women.
