Help! What does it mean if my boyfriend deletes text messages?

Usually my boyfriend is very open with his phone. I can look at it whenever I want, sometimes he'll even show me his messages, and one time I had his phone for a whole day.

But yesterday morning when he was on it I was looking at it too and all his friends messages were there, nothing out of the ordinary.
Then, last night I noticed that one of the friends names that was there that morning wasn't there anymore. But all the other ones were. Just not that one. So that means he deleted it. But I don't know why?

I guess the obvious reason would be he's hiding something right? But I don't know how to confront him about it or even what to say

You pay that much attention when you have his phone? mental. If I delete messages it's because it's full. If I'm honest, the fact you initially suggested he's hiding something means you really don't trust this guy. If that's the case then you really NEED to address this soon because it will eat away at you at you'll get worse. I don't know what reasons you have to be this uneasy but it's not good.

I'll put it into perspective, if you can't tell yourself he probably deleted it because it's full, or you can't have his phone and not be tempted to check out his text messages then it's a problem. You'll start wondering why he hasn't replied to your texts or why he's spending quite a bit of time talking to one of his female friends or something.

My advice, just flat out ask him about his phone if you must and hopefully have him show you it's not what you think. Then address the distrust, he might tell you he deleted it accidentally or because his phone was full. He won't be able to prove it so I garauntee you, you won't be content with his answer, you might say you are but from my experiences with friends you'll start checking his phone more and noticing small differences that bother you. Privacy is important too, star asking questions when you have evidence or a heavy suggestion something is going on.

He is allowed to have a private life outside of you.

He deletes messages? So what. Maybe he didn't want you to read it. So what?

Only the most insecure people in the world would discount anything positive (like he was talking to his friend about some gift he had bought for you) and just jump straight into "Is he cheating on me?"

The fact that you see the inevitable conversation as a "confrontation", like you're going to slam down evidence of something and demand that he explain himself, shows that you are (what we like to call) CRAZY.

And once a guy gets a glimpse of the crazy, he only stays if he's crazy himself. So... good luck with that.

I highly doubt he was saying anything about a gift for me. And I already know what he will say when I ask, he's either gonna say he didn't do it or that it's none of my business or something along those lines.

Stop being obsess with his phone. I used to be like that and our relationship got extremely rocky. What I did to fix it is stop looking at his phone and social media stuff. My advised to you is stop doing what your doing, use your energy and focus more on your relationship by planning fun stuff together which will take your mind off his phone. Trust me If he had a another woman he wouldn't give you the access to view his phone in the 1st place. People delete text messages all the time... who wants to save unnecessary messages, it always takes up storage space in your phone.

If its just messages then prob means nothing everyone does it. Maybe there was to many ect. If he was hiding something from you i doubt he would even let you touch his phone at all. When that happens then worry but right now i wouldn't make a big deal of it. Just ask him straight. Do u not delete your message sometimes? An can i ask do you always check each others phones?

No, we don't. I hardly ever get on his phone bc he acts like there's nothing for him to hide so I trust him and I don't need to. But this worries me a little.

Ahh ok got my wires crossed then thought u might if he let you have it for the day. Yeh id just ask him instead of stressing about it and wait for his reaction as you will no if he is lying to you.

The only way to find out is to be upfront otherwise you'll remain worried and he'll keep doing it

People delete messages for various reasons or no reason. If he was hiding something then he would never have let you see the message in the first place. Phones can get really cluttered with messages from various people so every now and then it helps to delete a few because they will inevitably send a new message and there they are again. Try giving your guy some trust because he is being far more open than he has to. The fact alone that he lets you see his phone let alone his texts speaks volumes about how he wants you to trust him, but despite that you continue to only show distrust. All he did here was delete a message and now you think he is cheating. Either give the poor man the trust and respect he deserves or find someone else because this guy could not be more open.

Maybe his phone was getting full. Just a thought, I mean i delete messages from my wife to because we text so much it gets in the 5-6 thousands. So I go in and delete a lot of her messages. Am I hiding something from her? Nope. Maybe just maybe he had a lot of messages from that friend and deleted them because it was getting full. I am just puttin gother options out there instead of hin hiding something.

Phones are meant to be private. I don't know what you're doing looking at his phone, no matter if he's cheating or not. That's called invasion of privacy, and can actually be a federal offense in some cases
