Um...they don't.
The blond stereotype dates back to your grandparents' era and I doubt it was even that true back then. From what I've seen, it's pretty much a 50/50 split when it comes to what guys are looking for, and it more has to do with the associated personality than the actual hair color.
For whatever reason, blond tends to be viewed as more friendly and easy-going...ranging from the "natural blonde" in fairytale books and barbie dolls to the "superficial blonde" who just wants to appear that way. Some guys prefer this because they think it makes the girl more approachable, and other guys find it boring.
Note that only an idiot cares about being a true blond, because even a light-shaded brunette's hair can sparkle in the sun.
The stereotypes associated with brunettes are much more mixed, ranging from "plane jane" to the "dark mysterious sexy" look. So they could be either really boring or really exciting. The general perception is that brunettes are harder to get to know, and some guys think they're more suited for investing in serious relationships. Obviously, this is not true. You find plenty of brunettes who are outgoing and have blond characteristics, and plenty of blondes who are shy and distant to the world.

I didn't realize guys still preferred blondes. I swore that was a high school thing 7 years ago...
There are several reasons though, for why a guy might like blondes. First off, just the preference, the brightness of the color itself may be appealing. Then there are the stereotypes, some good, some not so good. For some guys, it could be that "ditsy innocent" type thing that attracts them, for others its the "easy button" that makes them think... "oh ... she's blond, and she's at a party, I can totally get laid tonight!" Not saying these are true... but... they're stereotypes for a reason.
The girl I like has jet black hair. And she's white mind you. She just happens to have a little of that Cherokee Indian in her. Then again, I've always preferred dark hair as opposed to blond. Brunettes also seem to have a complex sometimes, like they're so much better than blondes because they think with their brain and not with their t*ts, so to say. I suppose the ego of brunettes (again, stereotype) can be a turn off to many guys.
To each his own...
Its like asking... why do girls like athletic assholes? Stereotype from the 90s, but still lives on.
Look, I've gone from platinum blond hair, to blond with pink streaks, to brown, then to black (of course over a long period of time) and I can tell you that hair is only hair. If you want to change your colour, you can just dye it.
Funnily enough though, the white-blonde hair did attract more guys than the black hair (some of them were sleazy, mind you). People also labelled me as 'punk' or 'scene' and not 'emo'. I even got called Swedish once.
Blonde seems to be more socially acceptable than dark hair, I noticed too. Cause when I dyed my hair blond people weren't as judgmental as when I dyed it black. With black hair people treat me less like a naive little girl. Some see me as a threat too. I got labelled as 'emo'. My friend was suddenly like "Do you listen to Cradle of Filth?" and a bunch of skanks laughed at me, saying I resembed the goth from Mean Girls.
At the end of the day, just be proud of who you are and screw conforming and labels (I see these words as just styles anyway). Besides, Marilyn Monroe already did the blond image things in the 1950s.
Blonde hair is considered to be a symbol of youth. Large numbers of white-skinned children have blonde hair, but for most of them it later darkens to a sandy brown or a dark brown in adulthood. As a result, it’s common to get highlights or dye hair blonde in order to preserve that blonde look we had in childhood, as we don’t want to let go of our youth. People who naturally remain blonde are considered to look more youthful and desirable because it’s rarer to retain the childhood blonde colour, and rarity is always valued.
Aside from the blonde colour reminding people of childhood, brown and light brown hair also turns blonde in the sun, and blonde hair makes people think of happy summers at the beach while mousy brown hair makes people think of a sickly person who doesn’t go outside much. So that’s why women spend so much money on highlights to mimic the sun.
You know what I hate? Blond = Hot
You see it in the media and books often. The popular girl is blond and whenever an "attractive women" is being described, she's often blond. As if being blond automatically makes you hott. Now, I'm not hating, but I've seen some fugly blondes...
And personally, I'm over the whole blond hair/ blue eyes look. I think it's overrated and ubiquitous. And it's a shame that it seems like every women in Hollywood subscribes to the beached blonde/tanorexic look :/

Nothing. Seems to me the dumb blond thing is pretty true. No hate, I'm a blondish color myself, but as girls go, the second I see a bleach-blonde? Instant turn off, because, I kid you not, I have never in my entire life met a bleach blond who deserved my respect. Every last one has irritated me endlessly and acted as though her physical traits would get her whatever she wanted.
That's not to say I've never met a brunette or a redhead or what have you with those traits, but they seem to be rather prevalent among bleach blondes.
As far as natural, light blondes go? There aren't a whole lot of 'em, surprisingly... so I can't make a judgement there.
PS: Brunettes look sexier anyway.Nothing gets me more then a girl with dark hair and big brown eyes. I wouldn't have it any other way but I don't mind blondes, they can be attractive but I prefer brunettes. The weird thing is that most girls like guys that are tall dark and handsome, most girls don't prefer a guy with blondish hair like me.
Its less common, so blondes tend to stand out more right off the bat. that kinda depends on where you are though. I've never noticed any extra attention to my hair color in the US, but while I lived in Spain I was plucked out constantly for being bonde haired/blue eyed.
Bonde is also associated with youth, as many people grow out of it as they age, so being naturally blond makes you seem younger/ more fertile. etc.
Ultimately- does not matter. Wear whatever color looks good on you. Healthy hair in any color that's styled to fit you are the winning factors over color. You'll see that men prefer brunettes over blondes. However, they NOTICE blondes more simply because of visual qualities. Brunette blends in more with its surroundings so you don't notice it as readily, whereas blond always clashes with its surroundings so it *pops.* It's the same principle behind using bright neon colors in safety vests for roadside construction workers. Bright colors get noticed because they stand out from their surroundings.
No offense, just because every single guy you meet says they prefer blondes does not mean ALL men do. I prefer Brunette/Black over Blond hair. I have liked at least two blondes before so don't misunderstand.
It's all about preference and I wouldn't be surprised if the reason, specifically in the United States, is because of that mainstreamed image of perfection aka the original Barbie Doll. Another reason could be the stereotypes that are labeled to Blond women. To me hair color doesn't matter. When I was younger, I was attracted to blondes a bit more - I honestly couldn't tell you why; at the time they just looked more sexy. But now I don't care as much - brunettes, dark hair, red hair, it doesn't matter - if you've got a good smile and eyes, that's much more important to me than hair color
This mistress did not ask your opinion!
She wants to know the truth!
Eventhough I'm barely 10 years old...
Because those "gentleman" only think about pleasing
themselves in lieu of making every girl's dreams come true
without the neccesity of attempting to have sex with them
and take their economic resources away.
Sincerely, Michael Gdf.For me personally, blond is my first preference but it's not like I would choose only blondes. I think that blondes are my preference because I am more attracted to them than any other hair colored women. It might be because yellow is my favorite color, it might be because I think the face/body would look better with blond hair over any other color, or it may even be because I like the summer and the sun and the greatness of what I think bright days are and the bright hair resembles all of that. The point is that everyone has a preference of hair color and what I believe is that it could just be a reflection about the persons personality. But besides, in the end, if the person really wants to be with someone, it won't be because of a hair color so there's nothing to worry about.
Men don't prefer artifical hair color.
There's nothing great about stark yellow or dyed hair.
true Blond is not yellow, it shiens from within with emulian (the pigment).
so you can't have been a true blond once, just yellow.
So what's great about a lovely natural blonde? its facinating when the light hits it, it sparkles, its rare, it softens a womans face a features.
but then again, to each their own.Brunette hair is the most common hair color, where as light blond(not dirty blond) is very very rare, and it's more common among Europeans.
Blonds have the stereotype of being wild, party animals.
I think overall guys prefer brunettes though(from my experience)well its easy to say that we tend to like something that we do not have...People with straight hair want curly hair, people who have pale skin go and do some fake tan...Curvy and chubby women want to be skinny...Skinny tried to have some curves...Dark eyes people want to have blue/green eyes, the same thing with the person who have light eyes tend to like brown eyes...ITS JUST HUMAN BEING...
I personally prefer brunettes, maybe it depends on where and what kind of background of guys you usually hang out with / talk to the most. I work with blondes and brunettes at work however me and my friends personally find the ones who aren't blond more attractive. Hope this helps.
We should blame Barbie you know...ok there are brunettes Barbie now But anyway I guess its the whole deal of media princess and innocent are blondes...
But I guess its whether its a rare thing or not...were I live guys prefer blondes as its rare But in places where there are more blondes guys prefer brunette... I wouldn't change my hair color to have more options of guys...I've heard that it's because it's rare and catches the eye and makes a man happier because It's bright. Blahh not that I agree. It's a personal preference and lots of guys prefer brunettes. Anyway that aside, it shouldn't matter lol I mean you are pretty and have a very attractive boyfriend what more do you need you got it all.
In reply to your update, I would count myself in the minority with the ONE guy at your work who said he'd prefer the same girl to be a brunette.
Like if there were two twins or siblings, and I couldn't tell them apart otherwise, my first instinct would definitely be to go for the one who is brunette.
Not too sure why...both can be beautiful but I guess it's just a matter of stylistic preference. Anyway, don't discount the minority position here!
Numbers aren't all that matter.i think for most guys all that matters is the overall look of the girl and not all guys just want blondes if they see a hottie then she's hot hair color doesn't make a diff
some are just more attracted to blondes
kinda like I i prefure dark haired dudes but iv seen a few attractive blond guysyou know I find it interesting that a lot of men say they prefer brunettes but a lot of women say they get noticed more and get more compliments as a blond from men.
maybe guys should compliment brown/ black hair individuals as much as they would blonde/red hair girls, and the stereotypes might die...a little anyway.I like all hair colours but I fall hard for the blondes, I don't know why. I think it has something to do with the whole 'barbie and ken' thing where you kinda fall into this idea that you'll both be like barbie and ken and live happily ever after lol. Immature I know but I'm only 16 so probably most of us grow out of it, but yea I fancy all hair colours equally once I get to know them a little :)
just curious..where do you live?
people are probably just attracted to what's rare in their area. so a blond girl would catch the eye of southern people and a dark haired girl would stand out in the north.
same goes for eye colour.
around here most people have blue eyes and fair hair and almost every girl I know is into dark hair. but when I went to spain I met a lot of girls who were into blue eyes and blond hair. so yes, exotic looks are sexy ;)Nothing. I've got nothing against any hair color really but blondes are on the bottom of the list. That bleach blond phase is pretty well gone if you ask me. It was a trend and its over. Brunettes are the new it.
I always have and still do favor redheads.
