Weight loss tips?

I'm 17, 5'4" and weigh 220 pounds. It's hard to lose weight in my current situation, and I've only managed to lose 10 pounds in the last couple of months. This summer I'll be with my mother who is willing to help me out with healthier food options than what's offered where I am now, but I also need to know what exercises help lose weight and what meals help also. I'll get a planet fitness gym card over the summer, but which exercises are best for a beginner with little muscle mass, asthma, and who's as heavy as I am now? I'm okay with slow progress, as long as it's progress! Any advice on meals/recipes, diets, exercises/schedules, etc?
