What workouts should I do at the gym to be fit and to look good?

I go to the gym 4 times a day. What I usally do at the gym is the treadmill for 40 minutes to an hour and I also do the weight machines for about 20 minutes. Should I lift Weights on a comfertable level or should I do it above my level of comfort? And what else should I be doing in the gym? Is there any protein shakes or anything like that I should have?
