I never assumed if a girl is a gamer, then she's probably ugly too. I just game with whoever male or female and I generally assume nothing. Furthermore I have met a few girl gamers from the internet, and most of them are pretty normal girls, average looking, and a couple were even pretty hot. So yeah I have no assumptions about girls or their appearance.
Only assumptions I make is generally toward guys, and only based on certain ways he talks. Let me list off what I mean. If he talks on mic and sounds like his voice is cracking, or that he's talking entirely through his nasal cavity, or say his setting is on open mic and we hear what sounds like deep mouthbreathing. Generally these kinds of signs make me think that player on the other end is either a punk kid, teenager going though puberty, or (and this one is generally FAR more likely) he's some kind of nerdy poopsocking neckbeard in a dank, dark basement.
If you have a pretty average normal voice, I generally assume nothing about your appearance. I figure whoever is on the other end can range to looking like almost anything, from a skinny or average guy with a T-shirt and jeans ( link ), to a sweaty guy with a mustache ( link ) if it's a guy. If it's a girl I imagine she can range anywhere between the girls in this picture... ( link ) to the drop dead gorgeous. It can happen. I generally don't assume, one way or another. Besides it's not like it matters that much.
If gamer girls are stereotyped negatively, I can only assume that the reason behind this is because there's still a gigantic stigma on gamers.
It's still seen as a nerdy hobby. So many people generally assume that a person who plays videogames, is some kind of loser with no life, too much free time on their hands, and generally regarded as a immature dumb lazy slacker. This gives rise to the belief that some of these people are unhygienic overweight (or underweight), childish pizzafaced socially inept freaks. ( link ) Other stereotyped groups lumped in with gamers are drunk fratboys and stoners.
Maybe if anybody assumes that gamer girls are going to be ugly, it's because they think of the stereotype applied to male gamers, and the mental image that goes with it, and they assume that this same idea can be crossed over and applied to girls. From there possibly assuming that they will look ugly, fat, unwashed, pimpled, and ratty, and that they'd have no social kills.
You wanted to know why? That's my theory as to why.

I think most gamers are thought of as being either the obese WoW nerd who never leaves his computer, or the FPS fanboy who considers games to be important and doesn't do much else. Female gamers are often thought of as either "too ugly/fat to be out with decent guys" or "using the nerdy gamers as a means of garnering attention/ego". Obviously, these are both stereotypes, and neither one necessarily applies.
The "gamer girl" stereotype is the ego booster. She hangs around the skinny, socially inept nerds and professes her love/skill at gaming as a means of being idolized by said nerds. She might know some stuff about games and have played them before, but she's mainly just there for attention. Online, she can often be found flaunting herself over the mic rather than actually being productive.
The "female gamer" stereotype is the fat/ugly/socially inept one. She actually does genuinely enjoy video games, but doing so (like her male nerdy counterpart) labels her as either too ugly/fat to get a boyfriend, too obsessed to get a "real" hobby, or too socially inept to have real friends. A lot of guys do find such nerdiness endearing, but her shyness/seeming lack of interest with regards to guys doesn't usually gather her much attention (again, like her male counterpart).
Those are the two main female gamer stereotypes. Just don't fit into either one and you'll be fine.
I have no idea. I've been a gamer girl my entire life, and I'm hot as hell. XD I have long blonde hair, blue eyes, and a smexy butt if I do say so myself. XD I feel and look beautiful. Looks shouldn't matter anyway ofc, but it's still foolish of anyone to generalize anything. Do most guys really assume we're all ugly?
Well I just answered a question with a question and wasn't really helpful whatsoever. *p'wned the self* ... *Awkward silence* sorry, I have no social skills, and this wasn't much help either! XD
weird I thought the stereotype was that gamer girls were hot!

The stereotype exists for a reason. Gamer girls tend to be quirky, eccentric and nerdy.
Now, give those labels to a guy. You don't first think 'hunky supermodel' do you?
One of my best female friends is an on-off gamer (she's living next door to me from this September, hell yeah) and although she could be called cute, to most guys, she'd be far too nuts to handle.Truthfully, some gamer girls are anti-social, and thus not very attractive. That's the perception that most guys have about them. I don't know. I don't entirely agree with that. Most of the girl gamers I know have tons of piercings, tattoo's and so on. I do think there are some very pretty girl gamers out there, but I think they are few and far between. Not trying to pick a fight, just feel that way.
I don't really know. Maybe people think if you are good at a game you spend a lot of time on it and therefore couldn't be hot because hot girls don't stay in playing video games? Like I said don't really know I am sure most people think the stereotypical guy games is morbidly obese has no friends and wears glasses. lol
i know gamer girls who are very pretty, I never stereotyped them as ugly and I don't think a lot of guys have either. the stereotype of a gamer girl is she is a girl who games. that's about it
oh and I like the origional halo betterPeople think gamers in general are ugly. The stereotypical gamer guy is fat and unathletic... it's not because you're a girl, it's because people think gamers are ugly
personally all the gamer girls I know are actually really good looking, the stereotype is just used because guys are afraid of getting there a** kicked by a girl especially if it is a girl most guys would be afraid to approach in real life
With that sort of petty, belligerant, confrontational attitude, you have already proved your inner ugliness, never mind the outer.
These days, thanks to the rise of the Wii and the casual gaming market, practically anybody can be classified as a 'gamer'. I reckon the stereotype will pass in due time.
I don't know about other guys, but I'd never make such stupid assumptions. I think gamer girls are cute and pretty. And a gamer girl is definitely a turn on for guys ;)
Either they are what I consider casual gamers, or they usually are at least less attractive, but hey you are an exception to that majority so more power to you!
A female gamer is a major turn on for me. Only people who think your ugly just because you like playing video games are ignorant assholes with there balls tied in a knot lol.
I always think Olivia Munn when I think of gamer girl. Not ugly, no way
No, gamer girls aren't usually stereotyped as ugly. Learn your sh*t.
PS. I will own you at Halo 3. I am God in that game.Going through a variety of differenet dating sites I noticed that 90% of the girls that mentioned that they liked video games were either fat or unattractive in another way. Maybe that's partially why most guys think so.
Cause they think it's the gamer dude counterpart, so yeah not exactly hot. But I think most of em, gamer girls are cute once u get to know them
I love gamer girls, there fun and a good bit of them aren't ugly
well then, you are one hot gamer!
I was not aware of that assumption
