It doesn't matter one way or another to me. I've dated girls who knew the stats of each member of their team's starting line, dating back to their pee-wee days, and I've also dated girls who thought that the Cubs and the Bears were just different names for the same team. Like John said, as long as I get to watch my one game a week(and the occasional Steelers or Packers game...like the upcoming Super Bowl), I'm happy.
If she happens to like the same team that I do, great. It makes watching easy. It's when she likes a different team or sport altogether that it gets more complicated. I'm a football fan and I dated a big hockey fan once. If there were no conflicts between games, whoever's sport was playing got rights. If both sports were on, it was whoever's favorite team was playing that got control. If both of our favorite teams were playing or neither of our favourites, but both of our sports were on, we'd bribe each other with sexual favours to get to watch our game. It was a good system; it worked for us.

It would definitely be a big plus if she enjoyed *participating* in sports, because playing sports is quite a big part of my life, and it would be nice to share that with her (and obviously it would keep her fit and slim), but I wouldn't really care whether she liked watching it on TV or was a fan of any particular team.

I couldn't care less if she liked sports. All that matters is that I get to watch the game on Sunday without being interrupted. If she likes sports, that's great, as long as she's not a Ravens fan.
