It seems like it does.
To nonamaericans on GAG, does it annoy you that Americans call your football 'soccer?'
It seems like it does.
Not at all. At first I couldn't understand why Americans called it "Football". The feet of the players don't come in contact with the ball nearly as often as their hands and arms do. Why not call it "Armball"? Or maybe even "Armpitball" since players often carry the ball under their armpit when running. But "Football" aka "Soccer" makes sense because its the feet that control the ball like 99% of the time.
Annoy? No. It is the same way they get a lot of names wrong, and spellings wrong. We just accept it is part of the American way.

Let's face it, America has been butchering the English language for 200 years.
It's only annoying if I have to convert it so soccer everytime I talk to an American. Just like when I have to convert my height, or distance, into feet instead of metrics, so that Americans could understand. I think it's about time America familiarize itself with the metric system, isn't it?
I'm a Non-American on GaG.
and well...
Soccer is, Soccer...
So what's yer point?
I mean, they call it the World Cup of Soccer right?
On the FIFA games, they're kicking a Soccer ball, right?

it can get confusing - since they give completely different names to things like calling crisps chips when chips here are fastfood fries etc.
but I wouldn't say it annoys me
nope cos in my country we use soccer way more than football & countries differ that's what makes the world so interesting so why get annoyed :).
It doesn't. I call it football and that is enough for me. As long as people know which one is the
real" football I have no qualms.
no, not really because then what would we call football? soccer?
It don't bother me a bit.
