I tore my acl tendon in my knee last month. And had surgery to fix it. But I want to keep my upper body in shape while it heals. Would push ups be a bad idea since your legs are stretched out and act as a brace the whole time?
I think it's not a good idea since you had a surgery not too long ago. Recover first, at the meantime i think you can do some light exercise on your upper body.
My ex had broke his patellar tendon, it heals slowly for him.

put your injured leg on top of your non injured one. Should work, or you could just rest and let it heal.
