Why is it considered weird to study flatology but normal to study MBA?

Why is it considered weird to study flatology (the science of farts) but normal to study MBA? Farts have been al around us since the beginning of mankind. It's the most natural thing. Yet it's considered to be weird. MBA however is so new and so unnatural to the human, but somehow it's considered to be normal if you study it.

How come? :/

Some mathematicians work on things you also may consider "useless" now. But who knows, how this knowledge could be used in the future. The same goes to the study of farts too.
