I think this is a bigger issue about sexisim than about transgenders. Anyone that stands out in any way is at greater risk for being attacked, and society acts like violence against men isn't as bad as violence against a woman. Anytime a man steps out of his gender role he is going to be a target in some way. When a man steps out of his gender role to the point that he claims to be a girl, it doesn't surprise me he would get attacked. That is just how men are treated in our society. This is why women that claim to be men aren't as likely to be beaten up. It is VERY wrong to hit women, but not a big deal to hit men. Being mistreated for not being masculine enough is common practice in our society. People do it all the time. This is why you constantly here people use the phrase "real mean" all the time. It is a form of bullying against men that don't follow our gender roles.
Wearing makeup and a dress doesn't make someone a girl, and we don't need to accept that it does. Gender has nothing to do with your lifestyle. Are women not really women if they dress like men? Of course not. This is what is in part what is causing a lot of people to resent the transgender movement were otherwise we wouldn't care what they did with their lives. It goes directly against the feminism movement. It claims there is a difference between men and women simply based on how they act. Current feminism fighting against gender roles and transgender belief can not coexist.
Also a lot of transgenders are going too far. We can accept them as people, but they demand we accept them as whatever gender they claim to be. They even demand to be let into locker rooms where the other gender is changing. They aren't respecting our right to disagree with them, or our privacy. If they were simply asking for a third locker room, as oppose to forcing girls to undress in front of a naked penis, then people might not have that big of a problem with transgenders.

Fear of the unknown and confusion between gender identity, sexual identity and gender and sex. It was explained to me by a TG woman this way. She said to imagine that when I went to the store, people called me "miss" or "ma'am". That when I tried to play with toys I wanted, they were taken away because they were for boys and instead I was given dolls. That when I wanted to hang out with the guys I was told I needed to play with the girls instead, etc. It would be horrifying because I'm male (and thank God born with the body that goes with being male). But this is all gender identity. None of that has anything to do with who someone may be attracted to, that is sexual identity. And also issues with wanting to wear the clothes, act like, socialize like, whatever corresponds with your gender doesn't have to do with sex acts. Being male, it would tick me off to be called ma'am at the grocery store and that has nothing to do with any weird perversions. So yeah, that I think is the basic confusion that causes fear and intolerance. We lump sexual behavior, sexual identity and gender identity all into the same thing. I'll never truly understand what TG people go through, but I think that conversation made a real difference for me in terms of some basic understanding. My basic viewpoint is that it (being TG) is a birth defect. They were born with the wrong parts just as some have an arm or hand that isn't right.
bc it challenges The basis theory of and need for gender roles. Same thing with eomen or men who deviate from expected gender based behavior. Peope base their lives on the natural essential differnt between women and men and waht it means to be born one or the other. If you can be born as one thing and not necessarily correspond to what you're supposed to be well That just tosses stereotype justification out the window which scares peoeple even though it should be liberating.
I don't think understanding is the problem... It threatens staus quo. The people dont like change are the ones who get violent. Makes them insecure.

I feel sorry when they are hurt or bullied. This story and the fact people side with this company makes me much less sympathetic though. This is just the start and it's ridiculous that their psychological well-being is put over everyone else. They don't deserve to be beaten for it and there is an actual disorder, but it's actually thought to be rare. More than likely there are many people lying about having it, so their choices are more accepted by society. I tired of sacrificing my own well-being for others who don't give a shit about my health.
Because people don't understand it. They think that someone who is a transgender is crazy, abnormal or has some disease.
Plus, there are a lot of people who are transphobic.

Personally as long as someone's sexual views doesn't effect me directly I'm generally not too bothered by anyone who's GLBT, I've only seen one transgender which was kinda odd but other than that it didn't really bother me.

Kinda off topic: There's a game that Extra Credit's talk about in there Sexual Diversity episode that if I remember correctly has a character who is a struggling transgender.
I think it's pretty cool that there is at least a few game developers who care about this sort of thing.I don't condone violence in any case. But I don't believe that theirs a "gender identity disorder" I don't think it's even been researched properly, you are what you're born as deal with it, anyone can say that they are not happy being a man or a woman, and I believe that people who are truly not happy with their gender have underlying mental issues that are not addressed.
And you can't truly change your gender, a man will still be a man even if he grows out his hair long and is given boobs, it's an illusion. Men and women both have unique physical signatures that simply cannot be change like body build, and mostly internal stuff, sexual organs, etc.I agree transgenders are the most discriminated against - As always with such vehement bigotry I am amazed because I can't logically understand it - Transgenders were born the wrong gender and are free to live whatever gender they want the same way a non white, woman, gay is entitled to expect to be treated equally and with respect. It is basic humanity and good manners to do so.
Because in my opinion, it's unnatural. You are what you are born to be. I don't feel you can just pick in chose based on what you "feel". I feel it's way too common now adays to be a real thing. A few cases every so often sure, but at the rate in our society, there's just no way it's real.
Because at some point we need to draw the line. Personally i think transgender people have crossed it. there's nothing wrong with being a slightly feminine dude or a slightly manly girl but when you start dressing like the opposite sex or taking pills... no it crosses a line. Personally i hope this doesn't stop, i would rather have this minority be suppressed than have us all turn in to idiotic liberals that are always afraid of offending someone.
I'm a guy who has longhair, so that's a personal decision that I make, and I'm okay if I'm excluded on that basis or thought of as weird, just as long as I'm not violently harassed, like someone shaving my head. However, transgender people are still too weird for me. I believe that lesbians, gays, and bisexuals ought to be more accepted in society, but it kind of loses me at transgender. I do agree, however, that violent harassment based on the way you look is always horrible and is intolerable.
Most of the problem is with these religious nuts thinking they are corrupted or something. I have no problem with people being gay or transgender only thing i would ask is if you are transgender at least have the decency to tell the girl or guy you are flirting with that you are.
generally our society still doesn't accept different people basically...:-/
It is extremely unfair, the way transgenders are treated. No doubt about that.
The more extreme the difference the greater the vise of persecution's pressure.
Ain't that always the case?Cuz its weird man I don't know for me I understand if you feel trapped in the opposite sexes body then I'm okay with it but the ones who just want to do it just cuz I don't like that. But hey as long as you aren't fucking with me I'm not fucking with you. Other than this I wouldn't like transgender man that's a woman trying to date a man unless he was told from jump of what he really is... Which was a man that isn't right and it sickens me but if that man welcomes that with open arms well I'm ok
I don't accept transgender people and they don't accept me. It's equal. And the only thing that civil society means is that we agree not to kill each other. I don't have to accept them, and they don't have to accept me. That's freedom.
Its because of ignorance and loss of autonomy, AKA conventional, BORING, everyday people.
For the same reason why people that claim to be Napoleon are sent to asylum.
Depends what area or what kind of society you're in? I know they are tolerated. Accepted... not always... Killed? not that I know of?
This applies for lesbians, gays and bisexuals too.give it time, people are becoming more and more accepting of gays. same should happen with transgender, all in due time.
@QA, ''Why are transgender people not accepted in society?''.. I accept trannies in society n' in my bedroom too~! (;
#IfYouKnowWhatIMean #MaleToFemaleTranniesOnlyPlsThere was a transgender on the bus today, they're pretty weird, but whatever.
Come on, the guy cuts off his dick and walks around in a dress. Are we supposed to just ignore that, smile and say "Hey there, there is nothing wrong with you..."
It's alright til they go in the opposite sexes bathroom at the gym scaring people
