Is being unemployed a turn off to men?

I am 27 years old and was laid off from a great paying job at the end of March. I have an associates degree and would possibly like to go back to school but unsure of what I'd like to do. As we all know the economy SUCKS and there's not an abundance of jobs out there right now. I feel like I am judged by people by not having a job even though it's not my fault because I didn't do anything wrong at my job! I love making my own money but I can't go and accept a job for minimum wage due to my bills and my unemployment money isn't a whole lot but I've always been smart with my money and managed it well so I'm not looking for a sugar daddy! What is your opinion? Am I a turn off now since I'm "jobless"?!

The majority of my crew was men and well if you didn't flirt like some of the other females did then they didn't like you (including the job sponsor that knew my father..he is a pervert and my parents know that because they know him) The supervisor pissed everyone off and tried to get people fired and talked about people behind their backs including me so someone went to HR and an investigation got started on him

the men that knew what he was doing and saying about me behind my back informed HR and then me so it turned into a sexual harassment case on him against me! I feel like people thought that I was the one who went to HR and I wasn't...on top of that the admin that we had didn't like me because most of the people on my crew did like me and talked to me because I'm sociable person and she was "tight" with the supervisor...basically I was ganged up on and forced out and I couldn't do anything about

I have a couple of friends who sometimes are like shouldn't you be looking for a JOB? OR...My mom will get irritated for whatever reason and say "GET A JOB!" This actually does hurt my feelings because the friend was laid off from HER job last year and it took her a while to find a job and I do look for jobs but it seems that people still don't understand that there's not that many jobs out there! It just suckssssssss!

I received a job offer today for an outage...it's where they bring a unit of a nuclear power plant down to refuel and make repairs on stuff...a job I was doing but was made permanent before I was laid off..it's only 3-4 weeks long but it's GREAT money and they want me to travel 3 hours away to the next outage that lasts about 4 weeks. I accepted the first one and am strongly thinking about the other because they do pay for my rent/hotel but I will miss Halloween and be close to Thanksgiving :-(

I felt that way too! Some people do look down upon those who are unemployed. But in your circumstance I don;t see why they couldn't understand. It's not like you chose to leave or were fired, you were let go because the economy sucks. I think people should understand. Also you have a college degree, that means something. You had the motivation to go to college, complete a program and work for a period. I think you just need to keep you head up. The only people it matters to are those who aren't worth your time. I feel like this applies to both friends and potential partners. Why would friends, who are supposed to be supporting you during this tough time, judge you so harshly. Do they not realize how crappy the economy is. We are in turbulent times and having to deal with so much, and yet life is still supposed to go on. If I were your friend I would try to help you out a bit. The least I could do is offer a meal or something like that. Or even a place to stay.

People who treat you badly because of something that isn't your fault are not your real friends! Get rid of them :)

Ok sorry for misunderstanding. I didn't see the details until now. But I think you should explain then to your friends why you were fired. People would understand. But the economy still sucks and that might be why it is so hard to find another job. People shouldn't be so nosey either. Yea it sucks you got fired, but at least you have an education to fall back on. And I get the whole not wanting to work at Mcdonalds, I worked there and they do not pay enough to cover bills.

My friends know everything and so does my mom. I think that some are just jealous in a way that I've had the summer off and been able to do as I please and have always been jealous for the fact that my family does things for me and I've always been somewhat spoiled even though I pay my own bills and have everything in my name only. I can't control the way my family is and how they want to help even though I refuse money when offered 75% of the time and accept it when it is needed or helpful

Guys don't care as long as it's only for a short time and/or you are actively looking and taking little jobs in between to keep yourself going.

What guys don't like is someone who doesn't look for a job, won't take work that is "beneath" them even if they need the money, and expect a guy to pay for everything.

It doesn't sound like you're that way at all, so any decent guys will totally understand and not hold it against you.

I do babysit and clean my grandpaws house to make money on the side. It's not that I won't take work that is beneath me but I can't take jobs that pay less than a certain amount or I'd never be able to pay my bills that I currently have and still afford necessities. I am actually waiting to see if I get a temp job which is only a month long but its really good money and I just won't pass it up even if it is a month long!

the golobal economy is changing...the unemployment rates are hitting the roof day after day.

the solution that I made was to liquify my postions and start my own project where I am my own boss and controlthe budget.

first make a plan based on

1. limit your unneccesary expenses to VITAL expenses only

2. collect more data on how much do you have to get liquified-to be sold for money-

3. do more research on what projects and small projects that can get-baring in mind all the global current and predicted events- a fair porfit for you.

kindly note that if you implied more innovative thinking you can convince other closer people to participate with you and dicrease the risk of the project and increase the ability to compete in the market.

also note that the world is in fact an open chance to create succesfull projects only for those who think outside the box!

I'm doing about all I can do right now...I'm living with my parents to save money and since I'm NOT working I clean their house, wash all of the clothes and run their errands. I don't have the money to start "projects" that would become a profit for myself and I can't sell anything to get liquified because the major item I pay for is my car and I'm not going to cancel my health insurance. Small businesses aren't making it around here and like I said...I don't have the money to do that!

I have a copy BUT I said is a fact that you can be laid off at any time they decide your services are no longer needed and they used that to their advantage. They tried to get me fired a month before that but they didn't have legal grounds to do it on and instead sent me home for a week without pay and wrote me up for something EVERYONE has done and does all because that supervisor wanted me gone!

Men like to feel needed, and often want to play the part of the hero. I would say that if anything it would be a turn on, as long as the guy knows you are trying to get back on your feet again. We don't want to be used, but we love to feel useful, if that makes sense.

Makes total sense...but I just feel like when people hear I'm unemployed its like oh what a loser! I was making $20 an hour which is pretty good compared to a LOT of jobs out there right now and I lived a comfortable life with paying my bills and still have money left over (mainly because I know how to manage my money) and it was at a Nuclear Power Plant so that itself proves I'm a clean and steady person lol because you have to pass all kinds of tests to get in there!

@ update. That wouldn't bother me at all. I have had problem bosses in the past. That sort of thing happens. Don't worry. Most guys aren't going to care that you don't have a job. In fact only one person hasn't voted A so far, and they told you the reason why. This is not an issue for men.

Don,t get all work up of this they are lot of people in the same bout as you are this days and no it not a true off. Go back to school so that you are not just sitting around the house like a bump on a log ha ha so don,t let some one tell you to get a job that out of work them self,s. For men, it's not a turn off if a woman is unemployed. It doesn't mean anything like she's a bum or a gold digger cause times are rough.

For women, cause they don't think logically and are FAR more shallow, if a man has no job (no matter what) they find them less attractive. It's really sad. Oh well.

But ya, I don't care about the employment status of a girl, but more the quality of her personality.

Btw, if you can prove any of that, take the company to court for providing an unsafe and poor working environment as well as possible wrongful termination. Even threatening will generally make a company tuck tail and run. Especially if you tell them you're going to go to the media about it if they don't comply. Be aggressive if it's still close enough (few months, can say you weren't sure what to do until now) and show them that they can't get away with that bullsh*t.

I went to the equal opportunity employment center and they informed me that I don't have a case unless they hired me back and gave me the bad jobs all of the time or stuff like that. I was going to talk to an attorney but I can't afford an attorney that collects from me either way. I decided if I go back or don't get a call to go back for outages then I'm being discriminated against and will try to seek help. OR if they bring that supervisor back that didn't get laid off until a month after

I did and got to make more money because HR took their time on the investigation. It made it difficult because I was a vendor with another company there and my dad is an actual employee there so things couldn't be done to jeopardize his job either even though it shouldn't anyway!

I'm not going to drive around all day every day though because if you didn't know gas prices aren't that low and I'm not about to spend tons of money on gas just because I should fill my days every week. I do what I need to do and that should be enough, especially since I said I babysit when asked and clean my grandpaws house weekly to make money on the side.
