Why does my boyfriend treat me differently than his ex?

My boyfriend is 47 yo and his belarusian ex is 43 yo. My boyfriend is a heavy smoker and when we first met, he knew that i hate smoke so bad but he didn't care. I was wearing mask everytime we met and he asked me stop, telling me that its annoying blah blah blah. 2 months later his ex came to bali and was staying with us for 2 months and thats when she told me that he quit smoking when they’re together because she hates smoke too. I was surprised of course and when i asked my boyfriend, he said that its true.
I keep wondering until now. Why is he treating me differently? I notice also that he almost never cook but i saw a lot of pictures of them cooking together before. Everyday i always keep myself clean and smell nice but he doesn't even take shower for 3 days in which surprising because when he’s with his ex, he took shower everyday and always wore nice clothes.
Why is this happening and what should i do?

The fact that the ex was staying with you makes this a red flag to me, and the fact that he doesn't care about keeping good hygiene when being with you, while he did before, is also another red flag. The smoking by itself, and the cooking, may be some of the reasons why he didn't like that relationship, so it makes sense that you change some habits from one relationship to another. I know I did some things for my ex that I don't intend to do again, because I went out of my way for someone who was just playing me the whole time. In order to avoid future heartbreak and to avoid falling into a toxic relationship, I will try to be more careful the next time. If a future partner thinks "hey, you did for her things you don't do for me, then you liked her better", they would be wrong in their reasoning: Now I just learned from past mistakes, that's all. Now, like I said, in your case, given that he's still on such good terms with his ex that she can even stay with you, and he went out of his way, and he really doesn't do ANYTHING for you, I'd say you have huge red flags there. I wouldn't be surprised if they were having an affair, and if he didn't really want to be with you but you were just a rebound

you're 24... he is using you as a trophy girlfriend.. basically using you for sex.. its kind of funny actually, its what happens when you date someone old enough to be your dad.
