If you broke up with your partner and you were both invited to a party, what would you do?

Would you go? Would you go only if your ex didn't come? Or would you go and ignore them?

Don't worry, this is not my case. Or better - it's the case of a couple of friends who I invited to a very important event next week. Far from me to meddle in other people's private lives, but since it's a very important event and the spots are counted due to Covid, I had to reach them out to learn about what they intended to do.
Apparently the break up is mutual and amicable, so they'll both come without issue, although she was a bit annoyed the guy told me because she wanted to keep it hush until after the event to "not ruin it".
I reassured her they didn't ruin anything and to not worry.

I would go alone, or invite a friend along instead.

As for the ex? That's his business if he goes or not since we're no longer together, haha. If anyone asks, I will tell them the truth: we're no longer together. I know how to act like a lady, so obviously I'm not going to make a scene if he attends. I will either ignore him, or politely greet him and keep going.

Now if it's a party I didn't want to go to? Sounds like our breakup is the perfect excuse not to go!

I think it would depend on the break up and how soon after it was. And also what kind of event it was. A bigger event like a wedding where it's easier to not have a much contact with them would be different than say a house party or small dinner party where you're in close contact.

I avoided events in my university because I did not want to run unto the guy I used to date but we broke on bad terms, if we had ended on good terms I would go to the event, unless I was afraid of seeing him with other woman, than I’d stay home.

Haha got an even worse situation I went through... my ex cheated on me a week before I was to stand in Kates wedding.. Tyler my ex slept with Megan who was also standing in the wedding.. Kate and Megan were cousins Kate knew it happened.. I also never stood in a wedding before so was kinda excited.. I told Kate that it has nothing to do with her and I could keep things under control they were in the wrong.. not me.. Megans boyfriend Cory (since Megan and him share a son who was the ring barer) was also there who she cheated on so when I wasn't doing bridesmaids duties I was drinking with him.. I didn't know anyone.. when he suggested getting even us having sex to get back at them I said no two wrongs dont make a right.. went and talked with guy who walked down the isle with me when he mentioned he brought a tent abd hed love to see what was under the dress that Tyler was stupid to cheat on me he never would.. I went to Kate asked if I was needed for anything else she said no and called a cab since I was drunk to go home next day my dad drove me to my car. I can be civil but dont expect me to be chummy ran into Megan years later she asked if we could be friends again she never had a friend as good as me... we were best friends told details with each other I never told anyone.. I said next time think about who you sleep with didn't care about me then and I should care now? What do you want to do sleep with the man I have now? If I didn't even really want to go, it's a geat excuse to skip out.

In that case I would ask them if they were going wanted to go and then decide.

I would attend the event. The event is for my friend, not my ex. I will never allow my grudge against an ex to affect my relationships with other people. I would ignore her. If she approached me, I would tell her to go away and go to another part of the room.

I didn't wish to make big announcements here, but we are getting married next week, on Friday 4th.
We will just do the civil ceremony with very few people. When restrictions will be lifted, we'll renew our vows in a bigger ceremony with more invitations.
