My ex of almost three years just sent me this after me asking him to gives us another chance and start from scratch. His response was as follows I do love you! But I just want to get all my shit together. And maybe the future will be better for us. Does he mean it? This breaks my heart we broke up because of arguments we were having and I know it’s fixable. Now that he’s left he’s out partying drinking and talking to multiple women while we speak still everyday and weekly we go out to dinner and stay at his place and have sex.

How do you KNOW that the relationship can be repaired? Why won't the same problems emerge once again, as soon as you both start to relax and lower your guard?

To me because it has scared me and don’t want to put myself in the position to possibly loose him again because he honestly is a good man and honestly loved him and I know he loved me it’s not just attachment issues here it really hurts because we truly loved each other just our stupid little arguments I didn’t pay attention to ruined us and I know I can watch myself

The most likely scenario on a reconciliation is that you reunite, enjoy a brief honeymoon, then encounter the same conflicts, have the same arguments, and break up again. Perhaps you will be the exception but the odds are against you.
