it is worth a try at least if you are normally happy with that friend group.. but maybe take a break or lower the frequency of getting together. Maybe it is fine after being in a friendly situation some times, maybe it is not. Depends a lot on the persons and situation.
Friend groups are important. It's hard for friends to choose who they stay friends with. And the awkwardness will go away after some time.
