Long story short, my ex has anger issues and threw me out of the house. He broke my phone, broke my TV, threw my mattress outside into the rain, and this was right after he had me send him “my portion of the rent”. I didn’t stay at his place because he threw me out right after me sending him rent money. I’ve added up that he has cost me at least $1600 in damages including rent plus has tried to keep some of my stuff he found useful. I have blocked him and not had contact with him because he is very emotionally abusive and I know if he tried he could still pull me back into his bullshit since this is a fresh breakup. I had my friend message him and be the mediator but he is not responding. Note: he is on parole so I am debating if I should involve his parole officer.
Two things you can do
1. say forget about what he owes you, block him, and move on with your life because sometimes peace of mind is better than money could ever be. Or
2. Small claims court.. and get a restraining order after. Because he seems crazy.

You can sue him and you can also contact the police and his parole officer. I’m pretty sure everything he did to you is illegal.

Involve his parole officer if you feel like opening that door, but don't expect the money back.
He probably doesn't have $1600 to return anyways.Take him to small claims court
Just take as a loss
