My ex boyfriend's friend messaged me a year later?

So I dated my ex for about 2 and a half years, I ended it over a year ago. However, I got back in touch with him about six months ago, hung out and slept together a couple of times. However, he was seeing a girl and I wasn't looking for a relationship so we stopped sleeping together and just remained friends. The new girlfriend did not like this, so she demanded he end communication. Fast forward to today, his best friend messages me asking to hang out, I told him that it would be awkward since I had only met him twice, and he is friends with my ex. I continued talking and asked him how my ex was doing, and if he was happy. I was expecting a "yup, he is good has a girlfriend now" or something similar. Instead I got a very detailed and what seemed to be a very bizarre answer. He responded "He is happy, met someone really good for him and they are very happy together". I know this is not how he talks and it seems odd that he would say it like that. Which leads me to believe that perhaps the new girlfriend has something to do with it and that she wants me to know that they are happy. I find it odd that after all this time NOW he wants to hang out? & I get that very rehearsed sounding response. Thoughts?

Well I think your ex used you for sex then his friend wanted to get laid so your ex suggested to his friend that he talk to you. Since he wants to get with you he really doesn't want to talk about your ex so it will be a cliche played out answer. That is what I think because I have been in situations. The girl probably does not trust him with other girls especially with exes, usually turns into sexy time or thoughts, just an uncomfortable situation.
