Guys... why it's important to SMELL GOOD on a FIRST DATE.

The most important thing for a guy on the first date is to smell good.

Why?

Because the first hole he will penetrate is her nostril.

Good hygiene is like the bare minimum.


So if a guy smells like he has poor hygiene, then it’s going to be an INSTANT turn off.


If you have good clean hygiene — you showered, have your deodorant on, brushed your teeth (and tongue), nails trimmed, facial/body hair all taken care of, and a fresh change of clothes, then you’re already golden.


Now, if you want to get fancy, you can add some cologne, but good hygiene takes priority by far.


Assuming that you have the hygiene part taken care of, a nice cologne can be a really nice touch — just make sure that it’s subtle — better too little than too much.


Then boom. You’re ready.

I always believed that you might actually score points with a girl if your after shave reminded her of the way her dad smelled when she was a little girl. I'm a traditional guy, anyways, so I have always used Old Spice and have had many compliments on my smell.

The fragrance does nothing for me as I have anosmia (I am smell deaf!)

My last boyfriend didn't wear any cologne or after shave. So I bought him some Original Old Spice to put on. He did it a couple of times, but it wasn't his thing. I like it.

It depends.

There are people with very sensitive smell. Whatever you do, they will find something unpleasant anyway. But they don't mind - they are used to it (my husband is such a type).

Some people are sensitive to certain unpleasant smells (e. g., garlic, artificial lemon/lime). These smells are not unpleasant in general, just for them. So don't worry.

For the rest of us, proper hygiene and clean clothes are enough. I never went so far as not to eat some things to avoid changes in my smell. It's me, so it is better to know sooner than later if someone doesn't like it.

I would have to agree with this... I am drawn to good-smelling guys. Now, that being said... I don't care if it is your own natural clean scent, the scent of your soap, or a great-smelling cologne... but the better you smell, the faster you'll attract us women!

girls have a 1.5x better sense of smell than men, they will absolutely smell your deodorant from much further away, this also means that if you drown yourself with cologne, it will do worse for you as it will irritate them and probably cause them to have a headache.

I typically shower and wear clean clothes on a date. I may put on a little cologne, but not soooo much it's the initial scent they get. Some people are really sensitive to strong smells.
