Is it worth waiting for a guy?

So a month ago I broke up with my boyfriend of two years. He lives in America and I live in Europe, so the relationship was long distance and we hadn't met before. We planned on meeting each other last summer, however Corona made us have to change our plans.
I want to start by saying I really dearly love this person and care for them. One day I wanted to move in with him overseas. However, somewhere around January, he started getting more and more depressed about our relationship. I don't know what triggered this, but he eventually told me that it hurt every day being away from me and that he can't do long distance anymore, so we broke it off and said that we'd go our separate ways, but if the chance showed up again, we'd get back together.
Now, I don't know if he genuinely means that or whether he'll wait for me to be able to move overseas with him, but I wanted to ask others' opinions on this; is it worth waiting for someone who couldn't do long distance for me? Can I trust that person in the future to not get cold feet on things like he did on the relationship?

If you sit around waiting for someone unattainable you are going to regret your time wasted on the “what-if” possible opportunities for yourself. Don’t put yourself through that kind of pain. Go live your life. If it is meant to be yours, it will be. Don’t sit around and wait for it.

Don't wait, but keep in touch. Look for other people, and ask he does the same. If by the time you can meet you're both still, or have again become, single, and still love one another, you should meet. Until that point, or if it doesn't come, I'd stay as online friends. If you lose touch, you could both come to regret it, and if you wait for one another, I'm certain one of you will regret it.
