Ugly guys can become more attractive in the eyes of women by working on being masculine and charming, which women are sexually attracted to. The can work on being passionate about their career, be charismatic and personable, be confident yet protective, work on their humor and wit, and average looking women (even trophy women) will find them very attractive.

You are right on the part that men can become attractive by the things they acquire and do but also understand that women can also do a lot of those things like being feminine, compliant, go to the gym, and get their body on point, not to mention makeup. The thing people don't get is that attaining those things as men are very difficult, one major factor is a career, its not easy to just get a great career and your set, careers take time and a lot of people don't have those opportunities that's why it's very hard to get at least 100k job if it was easy everyone would do it. So if we take away all those things an ugly woman will still have a better chance than an ugly guy because as mentioned a guy has to fight tooth and nail just to become someone valuable, a woman naturally has her value already, not to mention men don't have the same standards that women have so that already disqualifies a lot of men. I can even go as far as to say that an ugly woman has a lot more options than an average-looking guy.

Overall, it feels like in the eyes of men, they know deep down that any woman is replaceable. Whereas when we like a man, it's because we feel like he is unique and better than others we've encountered and it will be difficult finding another man like him.

That is very true. I'm a very average looking guy, but I have straight hotties tripping over me and it's because I understand game. A girl in my position might be able to get some guys with her swagger (there are definitely women who have certain vibe about them that men just love), but it would be more of an uphill battle for her than it is for me.
