Do you cut off all contact if you get rejected?

My friend got rejected by her crush (honestly I though that her crush likes her back and I egged her on so now I felt kind of bad).

My friend took the rejection quite badly and she cut him off completely. No messages, not showing up in gatherings, blocking him on social media.

I don’t know if she should cut him off so abruptly. I think that he might have rejected her out of shock and not the lack of attraction. But by disappearing completely, she now has no chance with him forever.
