I don't blame you; I'd be pretty damn uncomfortable with that myself. I mean, it's one thing to see someone who's (to you) exotic and new, and be attracted to them because of that, but you're dating a PERSON, not a characteristic.
My parents were kids in the 60's, and saw the social upheaval firsthand. They raised us to think that racism is stupid, and one of my mother's proudest moments was when my sister brought home a boyfriend to meet the family, and when she saw him get out of the car, mom realized he was black. Was she proud because her daughter was "making up for past injustices", or some such nonsense? No- she was proud because, to my sister, it didn't seem like something worth mentioning; it didn't matter. That was the goal at one point; somehow, it got lost somewhere along the way.
