What's a polite way to scoff at a middle aged mentor who believes in soulmate theory?

So I met up with this guy and he's gonna be mentoring me for the time being. he wants me to have a career where i have time for my husband and kids, and he keeps insisting that a lovely girl such as myself is either depressed by parents or heartbroken and it would be not fair of me to decide i don't want anything to do with marriage and kids.


1. Why is he so damn nosy? He has two wives and a kid, so I really don't want to explain my nihilistic theories to him.
2. Love conquers all — is he producing a Disney movie?
3. Why can't a woman by herself be lovely? I know I'm lovely, but why the passive aggressive idiocy?
4. If I insist a full time career, why does he get a say in this? My parents are happy, they should be the ones upset about my lack of socialisation!

It’s not possible to scoff at something politely. But, you can acknowledge his right to believe in his own beliefs and you would appreciate the same respect reciprocated towards your own beliefs. You don’t believe in soulmate theory and that’s that. You can let him know that’s your stance and you’re not there for him to mentor you in that area. You can politely request that he doesn’t touch on that subject and instead help you with what you’ve come to him to help you with in the first place. If he’s trying to touch on that subject anyway, you don’t have to participate. You can stick to your guns and refuse to budge, tell him you don’t want to talk about that and just wait until the topic changes back to something appropriate.

Simply insist that he refrain from personal talk. If he persists, then go to his supervisor.

I personally think that this sounds like some sort of religious thing personally I would just say something along the lines of please keep your religious beliefs and political views to yourself. I don't know what career or who your mentoring but it seems like it is getting way to personal and I am sure uncomfortable for you personally. So essentially throw down the gauntlet. Let this person know that he or she has crossed the line essentially. 😉😉😁

Marriage is a concept fast dying off these days. It was necessary in the bygone era wherein marriages gave women security in life. However these days women are as independent as men. Also child bearing ain't a priority these days.

What you need to do is have a clear but brief talk with him explaining you are not happy with his constant poking bout marriage and request him to not discuss it again...
