A friend of mine (David) messaged a girl (named Elizabeth) on a dating app with "Hey, Elizabeth, How's it going?" Is that a good way to go? I feel a better way would be to introduce himself a bit with "Hi, Elizabeth! My name is David. I do ___ for a living and in my free time I enjoy doing ____." Etc.

Or was he on the right track with keeping it as a short greeting?
